Division 324 of Military Region 4 was established on July 1, 1955 in Trieu Duong commune, Tinh Gia district, Thanh Hoa province. In 1966, the division fought the US in the first battle on the Quang Tri battlefield, destroying Dau Mau base, with more than 1,200 enemies. From 1967 to 1975, Division 324 participated in the Mau Than Tet uprising in 1968; participated in the 81-day and night campaign in Quang Tri Citadel, Route 9 in Southern Laos; participated in the liberation of Quang Tri, Hue, Quang Nam, Da Nang and participated in the Ho Chi Minh campaign. Place names such as Doc Mieu, Lao Bao, Lang Vay, Khe Sanh, Ta Con, Dong Tranh... are associated with each feat of Division 324. In 1977, the division volunteered to perform international duties in Laos.
During the fighting, the division participated in over 3,500 large and small battles, annihilating 50,000 enemies, completely destroying 2 divisions, 5 brigades, 12 battalions; destroying 1,350 tanks, armored vehicles, more than 2,000 artillery pieces of all kinds; shooting down 680 aircraft, capturing 12,000 enemies. Division 324 became the main "iron fist" of Military Region 4, terrifying the enemy, was named "Doan Ngu Binh" and awarded 12 golden words "Loyal, steadfast, continuously attacking, united to win". With its resounding achievements, Division 324 was twice honored by the Party and State with the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces; 13 collectives and 15 individuals were recognized as heroes.
From the day of establishment to the liberation of the South, Quang Binh province had nearly 800 young men assigned to Division 324. After completing their mission and returning to normal life, the veterans of Division 324 always maintained the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", being exemplary in life, creative in economic development, and joining hands to build their homeland to develop more and more.
At the ceremony, the Liaison Committee of War Veterans of Division 324, Quang Binh province presented meaningful gifts to relatives of martyrs and members in difficult circumstances.
