It is worth mentioning that this particular tombstone was moved from the original burial site. Photo: @Bucchianico Municipal Archaeological Service.
The stele also has an inscription that reads: “METTIAE CL RVFAE METTIA CL ACVME MATRI P”. Photo: @Bucchianico Municipal Archaeological Service. A rough translation (plus some guesswork for the abbreviations) would read: “To Mettia Rufa, the freedwoman of Caius, Mettia, the freedwoman of Caius, gives this gift to her mother.” Photo: @Bucchianico Municipal Archaeological Service. While experts are working on the stele, Bucchianico city officials will raise funds to restore and display the stele in the town where it was discovered, possibly in the monastery of the city palace.
