On the afternoon of June 9, the Ha Tinh National Assembly Delegation held a meeting with relevant sectors to discuss solutions to identify the remains of martyr Nguyen Van Than according to the request of Mr. Nguyen Van Thien, in Huong Trach commune, Huong Khe district (relative of martyr Nguyen Van Than).

Comrade Tran Dinh Gia, Deputy Head of the Ha Tinh National Assembly Delegation chaired the meeting.

Through the petition of Mr. Nguyen Van Thien (relative of martyr Nguyen Van Than) and the verification process, it was found that there were 2 martyrs with the same name, different hometowns and units, that is martyr Nguyen Van Than, from Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh and martyr Nguyen Van Than, from Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province, but there was only 1 grave buried at the martyrs cemetery of Hoa Dien commune, Ha Tien district, Kien Giang province and both families claimed to be their relatives.

In 2019, Mr. Nguyen Van Thien (in Huong Khe, Ha Tinh), the younger brother of martyr Nguyen Van Than, visited the cemetery and found that the remains of martyr Nguyen Van Than had been transferred to his hometown by a family in Bac Giang province. After that, Mr. Thien petitioned many levels, including the Ha Tinh National Assembly Delegation, for help and identification.

Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs Dang Van Dung spoke at the meeting.

At the meeting, representatives of the Department of Home Affairs, the Provincial Military Command, the Department of Justice and related sectors expressed their views, analyzed legal regulations, procedures for exhuming martyrs' remains and proposed solutions to support Mr. Nguyen Van Thien's family.

Previously, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ha Tinh (now the Department of Home Affairs) had sent three documents requesting the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Bac Giang province to coordinate in handling the case and propose DNA testing for verification. However, the Ha Tinh authorities did not receive cooperation from the family in Bac Giang and the case has not been resolved in nearly 6 years.

Concluding the meeting, comrade Tran Dinh Gia - Deputy Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation emphasized: This unfortunate incident is not what anyone wanted, and both families have the legitimate right to verify and find the remains of their loved ones. The best solution is to encourage the two families to cooperate in DNA testing for verification.

The relevant departments are requested to establish a working group to work specifically with Bac Giang and Kien Giang provinces to agree on implementation solutions. The Ha Tinh National Assembly Delegation will continue to monitor and follow the incident to ensure proper handling in accordance with the law.
