After that, Mr. T. tried many treatment methods such as medication, intracavernous injection, physical therapy... but over the years his hope seemed to be increasingly distant. With hope, he went to the Department of Andrology - 108 Central Military Hospital for examination.
The examination showed that Mr. T. was completely impotent, an irreversible consequence of pelvic surgery. At this time, the doctors performed a three-piece implantation of an artificial corpus cavernosum (IPP), a modern technique that was successfully implemented at the hospital.
Dr. Nguyen Tuan Dat, head of the hospital's andrology department, said that for patients who have undergone pelvic surgery such as radical prostatectomy, cystectomy or rectal surgery, erectile dysfunction is an unfortunate and persistent consequence. Penile prosthesis surgery is the last resort but brings outstanding results in functional recovery.
Three days after surgery, the patient recovered well, is in the process of practicing using the device and preparing to return to normal life. Mr. T. shared: "I used to think I would have to live with inferiority complex for the rest of my life, but now I can hope to be myself again, to live more fully."
Dr. Dat added that erectile dysfunction is one of the biggest fears for men, especially after major pelvic surgeries such as radical prostatectomy for cancer.
This is not only a physical problem but also deeply affects the psychology, emotional life and quality of life of the patient.
Men should not accept erectile dysfunction after surgery but should go to reputable medical facilities for thorough examination and consultation.
Penile prosthesis placement is a major advance in the treatment of irreversible erectile dysfunction, especially after pelvic surgical interventions.
