In recent years, Hang Kia commune (Mai Chau) has become a community tourism destination for ethnic minorities, attracting domestic and international tourists thanks to its cool climate, pristine natural landscape and unique cultural identity.

Known as the residential area of ​​the Mong people with 5 hamlets, nearly 700 households, about 3,800 people, Hang Kia has a diverse terrain, mainly high mountains, steep slopes. The highlight of the landscape here is the small valleys, cool climate. Some natural tourist attractions are being exploited, contributing to increasing the attraction of the destination, such as the A Lang valley area with an area of ​​52 hectares in Hang Kia 2 hamlet, still retaining its rustic, wild beauty; the Heaven's Gate area at an altitude of 1,100m; the Pa Khom area to Thung Mai at an altitude of 1,500m above sea level, where you can see the whole beauty of the land, Pu Luong peak (Thanh Hoa) and Pha Luong (Son La) ...

According to comrade Kha A Lau, Chairman of Hang Kia Commune People's Committee, the available landscape potential is an opportunity for the locality to develop eco-tourism, community tourism and sports and adventure tourism products. In recent years, with the support and encouragement policies of the Party and the State, tourism activities in the area have significantly improved through festival programs, domestic and international tourism fairs, investment promotion conferences to promote and introduce tourism potential, images and products. From here, the community's life has been improved, many workers have jobs and income from the community tourism model.

After Ms. Sung Y Mua - the pioneer of community tourism in Hang Kia 1 hamlet, other households in the commune have joined the model. The commune has established the Hang Kia Agricultural and Tourism Service Cooperative with 11 members, most of whom are Mong boys and girls with the mindset and aspiration to develop the tourism economy, joining hands to build their homeland. Operating since 2020, the cooperative has maintained its activities to promote and introduce the beauty of the landscape and unique cultural experiences.

Besides the attractive landscape, Hang Kia is a land of strong ethnic identity because it still preserves many unique cultural values: costumes, language, cuisine, traditional occupations... of the Mong people. Mr. Herman Miller, a French tourist shared: I was really surprised because while many other ethnic minority areas have lost their identity, the Mong community in Hang Kia, Pa Co still preserves its traditional culture. Mong dresses are still commonly used by women and children; the practice of handicraft production, flax cultivation, embroidery, and brocade weaving are maintained.

Coming to Hang Kia community tourism site, visitors can experience many rich activities. This place has an ideal cloud hunting spot, suitable for camping, sightseeing, checking in next to the lonely tree at the Heaven Gate area in Thung Mai hamlet; A La waterfall lies under the forest canopy, pouring from the heart of the mountain, facing the field surrounded by people and arranged with rocks to create a natural swimming pool, helping visitors relax and restore their health; trekking through the old forest. In addition, visitors can immerse themselves in the community living space with the local people, experience the work of harvesting agricultural products, picking plums, picking peaches, traditional crafts of beeswax painting, linen weaving, indigo dyeing, making giang paper, reenacting the festival of pounding rice cakes, participating in folk games, cultural exchanges...

Currently, in the area, there are typical homestays such as: Y Mua Homestay; A La Homestay; Y Sao Homestay... The infrastructure and quality of accommodation services at community guesthouses basically meet the demand. Hang Kia community tourism has been certified to meet 4-star OCOP standards. Households doing community tourism are actively linking tours, routes and building and perfecting local tourism products to enrich the experience, attracting more and more tourists.
