Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association - Unite with the country to enter the era of growth

The year 2025 marks a special historical milestone - exactly one century since the birth of Thanh Nien Newspaper founded by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc, opening the way for the enduring and glorious flow of Vietnam's Revolutionary Journalism. 100 years - a journey of aspiration, courage and belief, the country's revolutionary press has become a vanguard force on the ideological and cultural front, the main information channel of the Party and State, and the voice of the people. In that common flow, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association, as a political - social - professional organization of journalists in the province, has continuously grown and matured, clearly demonstrating its role and responsibility in the cause of building the homeland and the country.

The Provincial Journalists Association organized a discussion program with the theme: "Quang Ninh journalists learn and follow Ho Chi Minh's journalism style in the new era", on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day.

Continuous growth in scale and quality

The birth of the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association is closely linked to the development of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press with a series of important milestones: At the end of 1928, Than Newspaper - the organ of the Revolutionary Youth Association of the Cua Ong - Cam Pha region, published its first issue to propagate Marxism - Leninism, awaken patriotism, and the struggle movement among the mining working class. After the liberation of the Mining Zone in 1955, the Mining Zone newspaper of the Mining Trade Union with three or four brothers who were trade union propaganda officers was assigned to do journalism. By the time the Mining Zone newspaper and Hai Ninh newspaper merged in December 1963, the number of journalists from Hai Ninh was 10, the number of journalists from Hong Quang region was 20. Along with the birth of press agencies in the area, the team of Quang Ninh journalists was gradually consolidated and developed. This requires a socio-political and professional organization to unite and concentrate forces. On June 9, 1959, the Vung Mo newspaper sent official dispatch No. 39/TS to the Vietnam Journalists Association requesting membership along with a list of reporters of the newspaper. December 30, 1959 marked an important milestone in the history of Quang Ninh journalism with the event: The Vung Mo Journalists Association - the predecessor of the Quang Ninh Journalists Association was established. Since then, after more than 60 years of development with the dynamic, innovative and modern homeland of Quang Ninh, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association has made great strides in both organization and quality of members. This is a solid foundation for the Association to continue to affirm its role as a common home for journalists, an important socio-political force contributing to the cause of innovation, construction and protection of the Fatherland.

By the end of 2024, the Association had 468 members operating in 7 branches and inter-branches, including: Provincial Media Center Branch, Office Branch, Cam Pha City Branch, Ha Long University Branch, Resident Branch (including resident reporters from the Central), VOV Northeast Branch and Senior Journalists Club. Of these, 49 members are resident reporters from Central press agencies, operating under Decision No. 979-QD/HNBVN dated April 6, 2018 of the Vietnam Journalists Association - a number that clearly shows the Association's attraction and prestige in gathering and uniting journalists in the area.

Veteran journalists and delegates visited and learned about artifacts related to journalism activities in Quang Ninh province displayed at the 100-year exhibition of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism.

Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association has also continued to affirm its leading role in the work of building the organization and developing its members. The most notable of which is the Association's establishment of the Ha Long University Science Journalist Association - expanding its activities in the academic and research fields. This shows that the Association not only focuses on mainstream journalism on mass media platforms, but also cares about expanding its scope of influence to those working in journalism and publishing in the educational and training environment.

Over the past time, the Association has also paid special attention to political and ideological education, professional ethics and raising legal awareness for members. Up to now, 100% of members have studied and thoroughly understood the Party's resolutions and the Provincial Party Committee's policies on building culture and people of Quang Ninh, studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics and style. Training courses on the Rules of Use of Social Networks, the Code of Ethics for Journalists, and the 2016 Press Law are held regularly, helping members "preserve themselves" in the digital information age.

People and tourists experience some modern journalism technologies at the Exhibition of 100 years of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism organized by the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association.

In particular, the internal inspection and supervision of the Association is carried out synchronously from the province to the branches, with the contents of checking the activities of members, the use of membership cards, and statements on social networks. The Association resolutely and strictly handles acts of taking advantage of the name of the press, ensuring the integrity and ethics of revolutionary journalists.

With comprehensive attention to organization, personnel, ideology and professional ethics, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association has established a solid foundation for a strong transformation, towards a modern, professional association, imbued with cultural identity and civic responsibility in the new era.

Solid expertise, good profession

Over the past 100 years of revolutionary journalism history, generations of reporters and journalist members in the Quang Ninh Mining Region have not been afraid of difficulties and hardships, using their pens and working tools to serve the cause of struggle, contributing to national liberation, building the homeland and country to develop as it is today; demonstrating the identity, position and influence of a professional, creative and constantly innovative Association.

The Provincial Journalists Association coordinated with the Vietnam Journalists Association to organize an intensive training course on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in multimedia journalism for members of Quang Ninh and some localities in the Northern region.

From the first 12 journalist members of the Mining Region to the generations of journalists today, promoting the tradition of "discipline and unity" of the Mining Region, journalists in Quang Ninh have built a proud tradition of Quang Ninh journalists. That tradition was built by the first journalists - revolutionary soldiers in the Mining Region such as comrade Dang Chau Tue, comrade Vu Thi Mai who worked for Than Newspaper more than 90 years ago, and was nurtured and built by generations of journalists after that such as journalist Pham Xuan Pho, the first Secretary of the Provincial Journalists Association, writer - journalist Nguyen Huy Tuong, writer - journalist Ly Bien Cuong, writer - journalist Sy Hong, writer - journalist To Ngoc Hien; journalist - poet Ngo Tien Canh...

With that valuable tradition, over the years, all levels of the Journalists Association, press agencies and journalists in the area have always worked closely together to fulfill the functions and tasks assigned by the Party, State and people. In professional activities, people Quang Ninh journalism always adheres to the guidelines and policies of the Party and State and the vibrant reality in Quang Ninh to truthfully inform about the situation in the province, the country and the world in accordance with the interests of the country and the people; clearly demonstrates its function as the mouthpiece of the Party Committee, the government, socio-political organizations, and mass organizations in the province; continues to affirm its role as an essential means of information for social life, reflecting and guiding public opinion; acts as a forum for exercising the people's right to freedom of speech; actively contributes to creating an open and democratic atmosphere in social life; actively participates in social supervision and criticism.

Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association organized a visit for Thai colleagues to the Vietnam Military History Museum.

Through their journalistic works, the team of journalists in the area has encouraged the spirit of emulation in creative labor, building and protecting the homeland, promoting the strength of the entire people under the leadership of the Party; praising typical collectives and individuals, good people, good deeds, new factors in all areas of social life. Fighting corruption, negativity, criticizing bad habits, warning against social evils, gaining public support, creating trust in justice, while fighting uncompromisingly against false arguments, peaceful evolution of hostile forces, protecting the Party, the government, protecting the people.

The press has also promoted and contributed to building the image of Quang Ninh with its potential, distinct advantages, and outstanding opportunities; a dynamic, creative, enthusiastic, and highly determined locality with breakthroughs in piloting the implementation of the Party and State's policies and guidelines. Under the solidarity and gathering of members of the Provincial Journalists Association, Quang Ninh press has rapidly developed in terms of staff, facilities, information technology, and working methods. Press agencies in the area always comply with the laws on press, publishing, and legal regulations; closely follow events, have close relationships with departments, branches, and localities to quickly, sensitively, promptly, and accurately reflect the socio-economic situation, and national defense and security of the province; and are recognized by all levels, branches, and the public. Thereby, contributing to enriching Quang Ninh's information, bringing Quang Ninh to the whole country and the world, thereby contributing to making Quang Ninh's press life have a new step of development.

The Provincial Journalists Association commends and rewards authors and groups of authors who won high prizes at the National Press Awards and major Central press competitions and awards on the occasion of the 2025 Spring Press Festival.

Thanks to the elaborate investment, many Quang Ninh press works have deeply reflected the burning social issues, affirming the mettle and intelligence of local journalists, and have been honored at prestigious awards such as the National Press Award, the National Press Award on Party Building - Golden Hammer and Sickle Award, the National Press Award on the National Assembly and People's Council - Dien Hong Award, the National Radio and Television Festival... Not only stopping at the Central awards, at the Quang Ninh Provincial Press Award held annually, each year, the entries have been outstanding in both quantity and depth of content and form of expression. In particular, the genres of multimedia journalism, video, long-form, megastory... have appeared more, showing the Quang Ninh press team's keeping up with modern journalism trends.

In order to truly improve the professional quality of its members, the Provincial Journalists Association has paid special attention to training and professional development for its members; coordinated with the Vietnam Journalists Association's Center for Journalism Training to organize many training courses; organized thematic activities, scientific seminars, and discussions on safe operations, data journalism, modern political writing, and information organization in the era of social network development.

Along with that, the close coordination of the Provincial Journalists Association with relevant departments and agencies to regularly maintain monthly press meetings and weekly press information has contributed to the Association's effective participation in press management and direction, and supervision of local journalists in implementing the Press Law and the 10 Regulations on professional ethics of Vietnamese journalists.

Positive contributions to society

Representatives of the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association presented support to the family of Pham Quang Loc, a visually impaired student in Trung village, Vinh Thuc commune, Mong Cai city.

Along with professional tasks, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association has always clearly demonstrated its role as a responsible socio-political organization towards the community, the homeland and the country. The deeply social and humane activities that the Association has implemented over the years have not only contributed to spreading the image of a humane and responsible journalist, but also closely linked journalistic activities with the construction of a harmonious and sustainable society. The clearest evidence is that in recent years, the Association has always chosen to organize the Spring Newspaper Festival in areas with a large number of miners, in mountainous, border and island areas, thereby contributing to bringing Tet press publications to the public in difficult areas and workers; linking the Spring Newspaper Festival with cultural and sports exchange activities with cadres and soldiers and giving Tet gifts to the poor... are all very practical and humane activities. In particular, for over 30 years, since 1994, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association has taken care of the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers in Dien Ban District, Quang Nam Province. This extremely meaningful and humane activity has been maintained since then and has been recognized and highly appreciated by the families of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, the Party Committee, the government and the people of Dai Loc.

In addition to humanitarian activities, the Association also plays a role in connecting culture - sports - media in the community. Typically, the Association coordinated to organize the Yen Tu Mountain Climbing Tournament 2025 with the theme "Conquering Phu Van Peak" attracting nearly 60 members to participate; the program to vote and honor outstanding athletes and coaches in the Mining Region - where journalists not only reported but also directly accompanied, voted, and honored outstanding sports models... The Association also coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize football exchanges between the Provincial Journalists Association and units in the sports - culture sector; thereby not only improving health and exchange but also strengthening solidarity between social forces. These activities have a high impact, contributing to the formation of an open and healthy community living environment among the press team.

Leaders and members of the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association actively collect foam buoys and waste, contributing to protecting the environment of Ha Long Bay.

With the 100-year tradition of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism, along with a team of enthusiastic members, with strong political will, pure moral qualities, and increasingly high professional capacity, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association will certainly continue to be a solid support, a pioneering force in the cause of building a rich, beautiful, modern, civilized, and humane homeland. All Quang Ninh journalists today are firmly stepping into a new era - the era of integration, digitalization, creativity, and humanity, carrying with them the aspiration to serve the Fatherland and the people. With the spirit of solidarity, courage, intelligence, and humanity, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association will continue to accompany the country to grow strongly in the second century of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism.
