Foreigners traveling to Vietnam, when leaving the country, can get VAT refunds, which is increasing again.

Updated in July, the city's customs department has refunded VAT on goods of 1,348 cases of foreigners and Vietnamese people residing abroad brought with them when leaving the country. The total value of goods is over 100 billion VND, the total VAT refunded is over 7.3 billion VND.

In the first 7 months of the year, Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department said that 8,750 cases of exiting passengers were refunded nearly 61 billion VND in VAT, with a total value of goods carried of over 742.8 billion VND. After a period of interruption in VAT refunds due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, from the end of 2022, immigration and exit activities will recover.

Accordingly, the number of foreign tourists traveling to Vietnam who are entitled to VAT refunds upon exit is increasing again. The Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department emphasized that the tax refund for tourists is being proactively facilitated by the unit, while at the same time proposing to remove some obstacles arising in the process of tax refunds for foreigners.
