Chinese media reported that coach Philippe Troussier is on the list of candidates for the position of head coach of the country's national team, in the context of the Chinese Football Association (CFA) looking for a strategist with enough caliber to realize the goal of the 2030 World Cup.
Sohu (China) reported that CFA has not yet announced the identity of the new head coach after Mr. Aleksandar Janković disappointed at the East Asia Cup. This has drawn public attention to Coach Troussier, who has worked in China, Japan and most recently Vietnam.
Coach Troussier, nicknamed "The White Witch", is a familiar face in Asian football, having helped Japan reach the round of 16 at the 2002 World Cup and win the U19 Asian Championship.
Although he was not successful in leading the Vietnamese team, he is still highly appreciated for his experience and deep understanding of regional and world football.
Chinese football is currently in a crisis of confidence after a series of failures. Considering an experienced coach like Mr. Troussier is considered a worthy option, especially when the 2030 World Cup is likely to increase the number of slots for Asia when the scale is expanded.
CFA has not yet made an official announcement, but the fact that the media constantly mentions Troussier's name shows that the possibility of his return is completely well-founded.
Previously, coach Shin Tae-yong was also rumored to lead the Chinese team but was denied by Mr. Shin.
