HOANG DUC RETURNS TO THE TOP
Commentator Vu Quang Huy affirmed that the competitive nature of the playing environment plays a huge role in boosting the player's performance threshold. We can verify this in the case of Hoang Duc in the AFF Cup 2024 when Ninh Binh FC was still playing in the first division.
Vietnam's most talented midfielder tried very hard but needed most of the group stage to "warm up", before finding his peak football feeling again, shining brightly in the semi-finals and finals. In fact, the fact that Hoang Duc and the Ninh Binh FC stars did not play in the V-League is always the biggest concern of coach Kim Sang-sik every time he plans to prepare the Vietnam team for the AFF Cup 2024.

Everything is different now, Ninh Binh FC returned to V-League and is the only team with 2 wins (scoring 7 goals, conceding only 1 goal) to rank first after 2 rounds. Goalkeeper Dang Van Lam shared: "Clearly V-League is a completely different football world from the field, fans, atmosphere to the quality of the opponents. Returning to V-League, I believe that myself and my teammates at Ninh Binh FC will find our best form". In the 4-0 victory over the famously difficult Thanh Hoa Club, Van Lam witnessed Duc Chien mark his 27th birthday by coordinating with Hoang Duc to suffocate the visitors' midfield.
At Ninh Binh Arena, Hoang Duc revived the satisfying emotions in the AFF Cup 2024 final, with his graceful dribbling, gentle pressure escape and continuous reasonable ball transfers to the upper positions. Present directly in the stands of Ninh Binh Arena, coach Kim Sang-sik was very pleased to witness Hoang Duc, Duc Chien, Ngoc Quang, Van Lam, Thanh Thinh, Bao Toan, Ngoc Bao, Ngoc Ha... shining together.
Coach Kim Sang-sik is pleased when t YOUNG TALENTS SHINE
The strong investment of the bosses is pushing the value of V-League up strongly, many foreign stars have arrived to help the matches have high professional quality. On the contrary, Vietnamese players, including the national team and U.23 Vietnam, are also responding positively. Famous stars such as Quang Hai, Van Duc, Tien Linh, Thanh Long, Thanh Chung, Tuan Hai, Duy Manh, Dinh Trieu, Viet Hung... are still maintaining stable performance, while young talents are competing to shine.
In round 2 of V-League 2025 - 2026, the two goalkeepers of U.23 Vietnam, Tran Trung Kien (born in 2003) and Cao Van Binh (born in 2005), together became heroes. At Hang Day Stadium on the night of August 23, Trung Kien had 11 saves, many excellent situations to help HAGL successfully hold Hanoi FC to a 0-0 draw. That was also the match in which central defender Quang Kiet (born in 2007) showed his rapid maturity, steadiness and alertness under the constant pressure of Hanoi FC.
At Vinh Stadium, SLNA only had 39% possession compared to 61% of Nam Dinh Club, but won 2-1 thanks to Cao Van Binh's heroic saves. SLNA was right to let Van Viet join The Cong Viettel to open up development space for his junior Van Binh. Along with this 1.83 m tall goalkeeper, SLNA's young soldiers such as Long Vu, Van Thanh (2006), Quang Vinh (2005), Nam Hai (2004), Van Cuong (2003) together created the most surprising victory of round 2, against the reigning champion Nam Dinh. Not only HAGL or SLNA, people can see the young stars of U.23 VN are leaving their mark in all V-League matches.
PVF-CAND missed out on a victory against Hai Phong FC, but the performances of Bao Long (2005), Hieu Minh, Anh Quan (2004), Xuan Bac, Thanh Nhan (2003) in the game with one less player were commendable. In Thanh Hoa FC's jersey, Ngoc My (2004) scored, while Thai Son (2003), Ngoc Ha (2004), Van Thuan (2006) are all gaining the trust of coach Choi Won-kwon.
Hopefully, this high level of performance will be maintained by the players until the end of round 3, helping coach Kim Sang-sik have more quality options when the Vietnamese team and U.23 Vietnam gather together at the end of August.
