(HNMO) - Mercedes-Benz becomes the first automaker in the world to deploy ChatGPT on cars, to increase the capacity of voice virtual assistants.

Initially, the German car company will allow car owners to try it for 3 months, starting from June 16, before continuing to deploy it on a larger scale.

The integration will be based on Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service, and will require Mercedes-Benz models equipped with the MBUX infotainment system, according to the description. The US software company is still the majority shareholder of Open AI, the company that developed the GPT platform and the ChatGPT application.

To participate in the test, users need to say the command “Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta program” right in the car.

The integration of ChatGPT promises to take the car’s virtual assistant to the next level. Instead of just responding to simple, pre-programmed commands like “turn up the heat” or “directions to point X,” it can conduct natural-sounding conversations on almost any topic, including contextual questions. In addition to providing information, this mechanism will help improve the driver’s psychology on long trips.

Not stopping there, Mercedes-Benz also said it is looking to expand the ChatGPT function, supporting additional convenient tasks such as restaurant reservations or movie tickets through natural language right in the cars.

In terms of security, the German automaker claims that the content of your conversations will be stored in its own smart cloud infrastructure, and completely anonymous. However, this data will still be used for analysis and service improvement.

For its part, Microsoft has always affirmed that the Azure platform is well secured and highly stable.
