South Korea discusses the continued appearance of Kim Jong-un's daughter

South Korea's Unification Ministry noted that Kim Jong-un's daughter often appears at military- related events, inspiring loyalty from the military.

South Korea's Unification Ministry released data on September 5 showing that the Rodong Sinmun, the mouthpiece of the North Korean Workers' Party, reported on 15 public events attended by Kim Jong-un's daughter Ju-ae. She is the North Korean leader's second child and is believed to have been born in 2012 or 2013.

A senior South Korean official said it was too early to judge what Kim Ju-ae's future role would be, but her appearances seemed to indicate that her successor could be a descendant of Kim. The official said North Korea had "established special protocol standards" for Ju-ae.

During Kim Jong-un's visit to the North Korean Navy Command on August 27, Ju-ae walked closely with her father while inspecting the honor guard, followed by North Korean military marshal Pak Jong-chon and Defense Minister Kang Sun-nam.

Kim Jong-un's daughter also sat next to her father on stage and read a document while he spoke, which appeared to be a draft of the speech.

The South Korean Ministry of Unification further analyzed that Ju-ae has attended 12 military-related events in North Korea, accounting for 80% of the events she appeared at, since the time she inspected the Hwasong-17 missile launch site with her father in mid-November 2022.

Kim Jong-un's daughter later joined her father at events such as the military parade marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the army in February, the launch of the Hwasong-18 missile in April and military exercises.

Meanwhile, she only participated in economic and social events about three times, including two sports events and a groundbreaking ceremony for a new street in Sopho, Pyongyang.

"Ju-ae mainly participates in events focusing on military and economic achievements, evoking loyalty from the military," the South Korean Unification Ministry said.
