Emulation movement "Old age - Bright example"

by the Senior Citizens Association   (NCT) province   The campaign has spread more and more, attracting a large number of members to actively contribute to building the grassroots political system, preserving cultural lifestyle, and becoming a shining example in the family and community.

According to the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board, Quang Ninh currently has about 180,000 elderly people, accounting for 13.3% of the province's population; of which, nearly 141,000 people are members of the Elderly Association, reaching a rate of nearly 80%. In recent years, the province has always paid attention to fully implementing policies and regimes for the elderly, while promoting the socialization of activities to care for and promote the role of the elderly.

The whole province currently has more than 20,700 elderly people receiving monthly social allowances according to regulations. On holidays and Tet, especially Lunar New Year, all levels of the association coordinate with the health sector, the Fatherland Front and local authorities to visit and give gifts to the elderly in difficult circumstances and those living alone, ensuring that no one is left out. In the first 6 months of 2025 alone, the whole province organized longevity celebrations for nearly 20,000 elderly people with a total budget of nearly 16 billion VND, an activity imbued with the cultural beauty of "respecting the elderly and valuing longevity" of the nation.

The Provincial Geriatric - Rehabilitation Hospital has invested in many modern equipment, helping patients feel secure during treatment.

In addition to taking care of the lives of the elderly, the province pays special attention to the health care of the elderly. In the 5 years (2021-2025), the whole province has more than 188,000 elderly people with health management records; 100% are issued health insurance cards. Programs for coordinated medical examination and consultation on prevention of chronic diseases and eye diseases are maintained regularly. In the first 6 months of 2025, the Provincial Association of the Elderly coordinated with Saigon - Ha Long Eye Hospital to examine and consult on eye diseases for more than 1,000 people, of which 145 cases were indicated for cataract surgery.

An important milestone is the establishment of the Provincial Geriatric - Rehabilitation Hospital with a scale of 200 beds, which has been in operation since the end of 2022. This is a specialized medical facility serving the elderly, contributing to improving the quality of treatment and rehabilitation, while developing specialized medical human resources through cooperation with major hospitals nationwide such as: Central Geriatric Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital Hanoi...

The Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board presented certificates of merit to collectives and individuals with achievements in the movement.

Not only living healthy and happy, the elderly in Quang Ninh also "live usefully", actively participating in economic development, building cultural life and maintaining security and order at the grassroots level. The whole province currently has 1,726 elderly people who are owners of farms, cooperatives, and enterprises, creating jobs and contributing to local economic development. Thousands of elderly people still participate in the work of the Party, government, the Fatherland Front, and socio-political organizations at the grassroots level; actively participating in self-management groups, civil defense groups, and civil defense teams in residential areas.

Cultural and sports activities for the elderly have also developed strongly. The province currently has over 900 elderly clubs, attracting nearly 100,000 people to participate in regular activities. Various types of activities such as health clubs, volleyball, arts... have become healthy playgrounds, creating a cohesive environment, improving the physical and mental health of the elderly. Every year, sports tournaments and arts festivals for the elderly are held regularly, creating a joyful atmosphere, arousing the spirit of "living happily, living healthily, living usefully".

In the process of implementing the arrangement of commune-level administrative units and streamlining the apparatus according to the two-level local government model, the cadres and members of the Elderly Association in the whole province still demonstrated a steadfast spirit, consensus and trust in the leadership of the Party and the State. They continued to promote their exemplary role in propagating and mobilizing the community to comply with policies and actively support major resolutions of the province, including the non-organization of district-level agencies.

Despite some difficulties, the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board has promptly coordinated with departments, branches, Party committees, authorities, and the Fatherland Front at the commune, ward, and special zone levels to perfect the grassroots association organization; ensuring the maintenance of movement activities, without interruption or affecting the rights of elderly members.
