Gojek suddenly announced its withdrawal from the Vietnamese market

Ride-hailing and food delivery platform Gojek will leave Vietnam on September 16, the reason given is to focus on key markets where the platform is dominating.

An announcement from Gojek said that the company decided to close its business operations in Vietnam from September 16, 2024.

Informing the media, the company said that the decision is a strategic move to strengthen its business operations, in line with the long-term growth strategy of its parent company, GoTo Group, the largest technology company in Indonesia. At the same time, it allows the company to focus on activities that can have a significant impact on the market in a sustainable manner, in line with its commitment to achieving sustainable business growth in the long term.

Gojek also thanks all employees, users, driver partners, and merchant partners who have contributed and been an integral part of Gojek's business in Vietnam. The company will provide necessary support to all affected parties during this transition while complying with applicable laws and regulations.

In September 2018, the predecessor of Gojek, the GoViet application, officially launched in the Vietnamese market. Attending this event was the presence of Indonesian President Joko Widodo. At this time, Gojek played the role of a strategic partner, providing GoViet with technology and finance.

In early July 2020, GoViet announced that it would merge its app and brand with Gojek in a long-term strategy to create lasting positive impact and drive innovation for customers in Vietnam.

On August 5, 2020, Gojek officially announced the launch of the Gojek application in Vietnam with ride-hailing (GoRide), delivery (GoSend) and food ordering (GoFood) services.

Thus, after 6 years of operation, Gojek suddenly withdrew from the Vietnamese market. The long-term development strategy that this platform initially set out could not come true.
