Mr. Nguyen Van Xin (39 years old, local tour guide), said that he was driving a boat carrying a group of 9 tourists when he discovered a whale appearing on the sea surface at around 12 noon, about 600m from Xuan Thanh beach. "The whale surfaced many times, opened its mouth very wide to hunt for prey, causing seabirds to also fly to compete for prey, creating a lively and rare scene," Mr. Xin said.

According to observations, the whale was about 5m long and weighed an estimated 600kg. This was the first time Mr. Xin had directly witnessed a whale appearing close to shore, although he had previously heard many locals talk about the appearance of this rare marine animal in the Phu My sea area.
The tourists on the ship were all excited, continuously filming and taking pictures to preserve the amazing moment.

A representative of the Center for Biodiversity Conservation and Endangered Species (CBES) said that through clips and images recorded by witnesses, it is likely that this is a Bryde's whale (Balaenoptera edeni) - a species that was discovered in De Gi sea (Phu My) and Quy Nhon city in 2022, 2023 and 2024.

According to the Binh Dinh Province Fisheries Department, the frequent appearance of whales in Phu My waters in recent years shows that this area has a clean, quiet marine environment and abundant food sources. This could be a positive signal for Phu My to become a regular destination for whales in the near future.
