5.9 magnitude earthquake, tsunamis in many places

On the morning of September 24, many tsunamis occurred in the archipelago area south of the Japanese capital Tokyo after a 5.9-magnitude earthquake off the coast of this country.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), a 50cm high tsunami occurred on Hachijo Island at 8:58 a.m. local time (6:58 a.m. the same day, Vietnam time). In addition, a 10cm high wave was also recorded on Miyake Island.

Earlier, the JMA also issued a tsunami warning for the Izu and Ogasawara Islands (southern Japan), calling on people to stay away from coastal areas after a magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred offshore that morning.

The above earthquake occurred at 8:14 local time (6:14 the same day Vietnam time), with the epicenter located in the sea near Torishima Island (Izu Islands) at a depth of 10 km.

In a warning issued for the Izu and Ogasawara Islands, the JMA stressed that tsunami waves up to 1 meter high were rapidly forming and could hit the coastal area on the morning of September 24.

There are currently no reports of casualties in this earthquake.
