In late June 2025, despite being busy with work to complete the procedures to terminate the activities of the Association of People with Disabilities, Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin and Social Protection of Vinh Linh District, Ms. Nam still spent a lot of time consulting, caring and sharing difficulties with many people in the same situation. "From now on, the Association of People with Disabilities, Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin and Social Protection of Vinh Linh District will no longer operate. I do not know if I will continue to be assigned to work for the association or not, but I still vow to do my best to help people in the same situation," Ms. Nam affirmed.

58 years ago, Ms. Nam and her friends attended a class in the Vinh Moc tunnel system (Kim Thach commune, Vinh Linh district). During break time, an enemy plane bombed the place where Ms. Nam and her friends were playing. Waking up from the pain, she learned that all her classmates had died and she was the only one who was lucky enough to survive, but her body was no longer intact.

Losing her left arm, Ms. Nam faced many difficulties in studying and living. However, being a studious and determined person, Ms. Nam overcame adversity to conquer the letters. As the years passed, she completed many courses, including the university training program at Hanoi National University. It was thought that losing her arm would make Ms. Nam timid, shy, and afraid to communicate, but on the contrary, she is very active and enthusiastic.

Perhaps that is why Ms. Nam was assigned to be a union officer in Vinh Kim commune (old), then a union officer in Vinh Linh district. Wearing the green volunteer shirt, Ms. Nam is always active and creative in union activities, charity work, inspiring many young people in the same situation.

In 2007, Ms. Nam was appointed to the position of Deputy Head of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Vinh Linh district and retired in 2016. After that, she worked for non- governmental projects related to people with disabilities. In January 2024, Ms. Nam was elected Vice President of the Association of People with Disabilities, Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin and Social Protection of Vinh Linh district.

“During my time working at the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Vinh Linh district, I concurrently held the position of Vice President of the Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans, so I was very close to people with disabilities and orphans. I not only fulfilled my responsibilities but also inspired, supported, and helped people in similar situations and orphans with many practical and effective actions. And happily, most of the people I helped were confident in integrating into the community, overcoming adversity to become useful people for society,” Ms. Nam confided.

Over the past 18 years, Ms. Nam has always helped people with disabilities, Agent Orange victims, and orphans access their rights according to regulations. In addition, she has spent a lot of time learning and understanding the aspirations and livelihood needs of people with disabilities to mobilize and connect resources to help. The mobilization and connection of sponsorship and support from organizations and individuals has always been carried out by Ms. Nam in a methodical, right-person, right-task, public, and transparent manner, so she has received the support of many organizations and individuals inside and outside the province.

Up to now, Ms. Nam cannot remember all the people she has helped. However, she still keeps unforgettable memories.

“A few years ago, I met Ho Van Thang, a resident of Vinh Thuy commune, who often returned to Ho Xa town to make a living on an old wheelchair. Having no home, he had to borrow a house to live in, sometimes using a tarpaulin to make a temporary tent to live alone. Because I felt so sorry for him, I mobilized nearly 200 million VND from organizations and benefactors and went with them to visit and help Thang build a house.

Not only that, we also helped him with money to buy machinery and materials for his mechanical work. Now, Thang has a house and a stable job. Every time I visit or call to ask how he is, Thang is very happy and often says: "Auntie has given birth to me a second time". I do not dare to accept such great kindness, I am only happy that Thang has overcome some of the difficulties", Ms. Nam confided.

Visiting the disabled people that Ms. Nam has helped, we truly admire her heart and the efforts of the disabled people to overcome. An unfulfilled marriage, a collapsing family economy , and a sudden disaster made Mr. Le Xuan Tuyen (41 years old), residing in Ho Xa town, Vinh Linh district, almost collapse.

“Nine years ago, I suffered from spinal cord inflammation, which left half of my body numb and weak, making it difficult for me to walk, so I could barely do anything to support my three children. Knowing my situation, Aunt Nam called on everyone to support me with the funds to build a tricycle to sell fried banana cakes to make a living. In the winter, I sell fried banana cakes, and in the summer, I sell sugarcane juice, so I have a little extra income to take care of my children's education. Aunt Nam not only helped me with the funds to build a tricycle to make a living, but also created conditions for me to access policies; encouraged me to overcome many difficulties in life,” Tuyen shared.

Saying goodbye to us, Ms. Nam went back and forth to visit and inspire people in the same situation with the hope that more and more disabled people will be confident, integrate into the community, and live a useful life for their families and society.
