Life is getting more and more prosperous

The village has now become more spacious, with solid houses replacing makeshift thatched roofs. Straight asphalt and concrete roads lead to the production area, where coffee plantations are grown according to VietGAP, RA, 4C, UTZ standards…

Visiting the Model Coffee model of the project on Organic Coffee Production with Traceability and Value Chain Linkage implemented by Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center, Mr. Y Thuan, in Ja Rah hamlet, Nam Nung commune, was excited because the coffee beans have helped the whole village to be prosperous.

According to Mr. Y Thuan, in the past, when farming in the traditional way, chemical fertilizers and pesticides were used a lot, leading to poor soil, coffee trees aging quickly, and productivity gradually decreasing.

Mr. Y Thuan said: “Coffee trees are the main source of income for the people here. Therefore, when participating in the CNC Coffee Production Zone, people are trained and guided on cultivation techniques, disease prevention, and output is guaranteed by businesses. From there, people's lives are improved.”

Mrs. Nong Thi Phip's family in Nam Nung commune also has more than 2 hectares of coffee in the commune's CNC coffee production area. According to Mrs. Phip, in previous years, each hectare of coffee yielded 2.5 tons, and in the recent coffee crop, the yield increased by more than 1 ton/ha. The coffee beans are uniform and larger, so they sell for a higher price.

Ms. Phip said: “The economic efficiency of CNC-produced coffee is purchased by Thanh Thai Fair Agricultural Development Cooperative at a price 5,000 - 7,000 VND/kg higher than the market price, while ripe coffee and wet-processed coffee beans are 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg higher. Thanks to that, my family's income is getting better and better.”

Famous coffee in the heroic land

According to village elder Y Toan, Nam Nung is now much more prosperous than before. The people have learned to apply science and technology to specialize in organic coffee cultivation, rubber plantations, etc. The State continues to pay attention to supporting investment in essential infrastructure, supporting plant and animal breeds, providing preferential loans, etc. to create motivation and help people get rich.

Mr. Lang The Thanh - Director of Thanh Thai Fair Agricultural Development Cooperative, said: "In addition to roasted and ground coffee, coffee products cultivated in the direction of CNC agriculture are also processed into high-quality products such as: ground coffee, paper filter coffee, tea from coffee husks... Currently, the Cooperative is constantly innovating and building brands for other typical coffee products of Nam Nung".

Not only improving the quality and brand of Nam Nung coffee products, the Cooperative is also an important factor in promoting the formation of a CNC coffee production area spread over 3 communes: Nam Nung, Krong No, Dak Sak, with an area of about 500 hectares.

According to Mr. Pham Tan Minh - Lam Dong Agricultural Extension Center, people in the project area have provided safe quality products with clear origins. From there, contributing to improving the quality of post-harvest products, sustainable development of the local coffee industry.

Mr. Pham Cong Tung - Deputy Director of Intimex Dak Nong Joint Stock Company said that to realize the project's goals, Intimex Dak Nong has coordinated with the Asia-Pacific Sustainability Program (JDE Peet's) and TMT Consulting Company, helping people improve their capacity and apply sustainable farming practices, aiming to build the reputation of Nam Nung coffee in the market.
