Dak Nong proactively prevents and combats drought in the dry season

Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to assess the drought situation and water resources. The Department will develop a scientific irrigation plan to ensure water supply for production and daily life.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment is assigned to monitor the exploitation and use of water resources and propose measures to protect water resources. The Department strengthens forecasting and warning of weather conditions and drought risks.

The Department of Finance is responsible for timely budget allocation to implement drought prevention solutions. The Department of Information and Communications coordinates to promote propaganda on water saving and drought prevention measures.

The People's Committees of districts and cities proactively deploy solutions to prevent and combat drought in their localities. The units recommend and guide people to change crop structures to suit drought conditions.

Dak Nong Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited proactively develops plans and synchronously implements drought prevention and control solutions. The company proactively inspects and repairs water supply works for daily life and production, ensuring effective operation of the works. The enterprise proactively monitors and updates water sources, periodically or suddenly reports to the authorities in case of abnormalities.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the dry season of 2024, Dak Nong was severely affected by drought and water shortage. The whole province had more than 8,800 hectares of crops affected by drought and water shortage, with estimated damage of more than 430 billion VND.

Forecasts from the Dak Nong Hydrometeorological Station show that the 2025 dry season will be at risk of local water shortages, especially at the end of the Winter-Spring crop. Water levels in some rivers and reservoirs are on a downward trend, with a high risk of drying up in February 2025.
