Dak Lak: Police investigate case of patient's death after aortic valve replacement

On August 22, a source from SGGP Newspaper said that the Criminal Police Department, Dak Lak Provincial Police is verifying the case of Ms. NTA (67 years old, living in Da Nang City) who died after aortic valve replacement at Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Vu Quang, Deputy Director of Dak Lak Department of Health , said that at the time the Department worked with Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, this unit had not signed a contract or cooperated with Bach Mai Hospital. In the surgery for patient A., there were 3 doctors from Bach Mai Hospital participating in the operation.

Previously, on July 26, Ms. A. visited Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital for a transcutaneous aortic valve replacement. The hospital contacted and invited leading experts from the Vietnam Heart Institute - Bach Mai Hospital ( Hanoi ) to consult and provide support.

Buon Ma Thuot Medical Hospital

On July 27, patient A. underwent aortic valve replacement surgery. On July 28, Ms. A. died.

After the patient died, the Dak Lak Department of Health inspected and discovered many shortcomings and professional violations in the surgical team. In particular, the surgery was performed by 3 doctors from Bach Mai Hospital, but Buon Ma Thuot University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital has not provided a professional support contract and a working contract between the hospital and the doctors from Bach Mai Hospital. The hospital has also not provided professional capacity records such as practice certificates or practice licenses, training certificates in related techniques... of the 3 doctors above.
