Dealer earns hundreds of billions even though no iPhone 17 has been delivered yet

Vietnamese dealers announced that there were hundreds of thousands of pre-orders for the iPhone 17 series. According to public regulations, each order requires a deposit of 1 million VND, the total amount is up to hundreds of billions.

At 7:00 p.m. on June 12, Apple Store and a series of authorized dealers in the country opened deposits for the iPhone 17 series. This year, Vietnam is among the countries that sell early and deliver daily, but due to time zone differences, it is before the US, from September 19. This is one of the important changes, guiding iFans who want to own the device early from buying hand-carried devices to choosing genuine ones.

Despite the price increase of 3-4 million VND, the new iPhone still broke a series of pre-order records. According to figures released by retailers, Vietnamese customers have spent hundreds of billions of VND just to deposit to buy iPhones.

Breaking pre-order records

As of the afternoon of September 15, most domestic systems were still open for pre-orders for the new iPhone, despite the fact that delivery times had been extended to mid-October. This shows that the supply in the first batches was not enough to meet the demand of domestic buyers. This is also a common phenomenon in Vietnam during the pre-sale periods, although previously iPhones in Vietnam were sold 2 weeks to a month after the first-tier markets.

Currently, The Gioi Di Dong (including Dien May Xanh, TopZone) is leading the entire market with 93,000 customers depositing to buy iPhone 17, according to the announcement from this unit itself. This giant currently holds the largest distribution chain with thousands of stores nationwide. During the opening sales, this is also the unit that receives the largest amount of supply.

Meanwhile, Viettel Store also “boasted” that it had nearly 70,000 deposits. Mobile World announced that it had reached 11,000 buyers.

Surprisingly, FPT Shop, the second largest mobile retail market share, did not announce the number of customers placing orders this year. The two leading dealers have a history of tense confrontation in previous “iPhone seasons”. Normally, FPT Shop announced the number of customers equivalent to 70% of The Gioi Di Dong. Mid-range dealers such as Hoang Ha Mobile and CellphoneS, which have hundreds of points of sale nationwide, also did not compete to show off the number of deposits with their competitors.

This is the difference of the market this year. The Gioi Di Dong and Viettel Store announced a huge number of customers depositing, many times more than last year in a short time. Other agents refused to give this data.

Earning hundreds of billions of dong without selling any machines

The first iPhone 17s will not reach domestic customers until September 19. But right now, Apple's line of devices has brought in huge revenue for domestic dealers. Specifically, large retail systems all collect a deposit of 1 million VND from buyers. According to the current announcement, at least 170,000 orders have been completed. The amount of money that dealers have collected is equivalent to 170 billion VND .

In contrast to this situation, some dealers like Minh Tuan Mobile do not take deposits from customers buying iPhone 17. One of the reasons comes from the lack of certainty about the source of goods and supply time.

According to Tri Thuc - Znews 's own source, the amount of goods supplied to Vietnam in the first phase is not much. Domestic distribution units have to "compete" for goods with neighboring countries such as Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.

“This year, in the first wave, the number of iPhone 17 Pro Max is only 1/5 compared to last year,” said a sales specialist in the Apple distribution chain. This situation leads to a large number of customers having to wait, unable to receive the first batch of devices. Some dealers are taking advantage of the situation to “raise the price”, customers who want to receive early have to pay 3-8 million VND more for the options they are interested in.

The appeal of the new iPhones was evident when dealers opened orders on September 12. Within minutes, the delivery time on Apple’s online store was extended to late September or early October. That night, dealers announced that the number of orders had reached tens of thousands. At some stores, dealers even listed a price increase of millions of dong for hot models like the iPhone 17 Pro Max on their websites.

The number of devices supplied in the following batches depends on the sales in the first phase. Apple calculates the supply based on the velocity index, which is the number of activations in the total supply. The problem with domestic distributors is that users are only interested in the new models, the Pro Max line.

The remaining products in the device range are often “unsold” and have reduced velocity. Therefore, to receive the desired product, Vietnamese users may have to wait for many months during periods of scarcity.
