Transforming the agricultural economic structure, Quynh Nhai district actively implemented many solutions, changing farmers' thinking and awareness about agricultural production, supporting the construction of effective economic models, contributing to promoting socio-economy and improving people's lives.

Chieng Khay is a highland commune of Quynh Nhai district, with the advantage of a large production area and a cool climate, suitable for many types of crops. The commune mobilizes and propagates people to change the structure of crops and livestock in the direction of taking advantage of local strengths. Mr. Lo Van Tuyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Khay commune, informed: The whole commune has 273.5 hectares of cinnamon; 47 hectares of macadamia, cardamom; more than 130 hectares of various fruit trees. Chieng Khay also strongly develops livestock with a total herd of nearly 10,000 cattle, developing nearly 63 hectares of grass to proactively provide animal feed. The economy develops, people's lives improve, income is over 45 million VND/person/year, at present the poverty rate has decreased to 11.4%.

The family of Mr. Tan Van Pap, Phieng Bay village, Chieng Khay commune is always active in developing the family economy. Currently, his family grows 1 hectare of cardamom, 4 hectares of mango, 7 hectares of cinnamon and macadamia, maintains 30-40 cows, and earns over 500 million VND per year. Mr. Pap shared: We must combine short-term to long-term, raising livestock to have money to invest in long-term crops such as cinnamon, macadamia... I also encourage and guide people on how to do this so that the people of Phieng Bay can gradually improve their family income.

In remote communes of the district, many new economic models have been formed, initially bringing about efficiency, such as the model of growing citrus fruit trees in Nam Et commune; growing macadamia trees in Muong Chien and Muong Gion communes; growing medicinal herbs in Ca Nang and Chieng Khay communes; growing fruit trees in Chieng On and Muong Gion communes; and raising fish in cages in Chieng Bang commune. Mr. Cam Van Chun, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Nang commune, said: Every year, people in the commune maintain over 600 hectares of crops on the fields; maintain a herd of over 5,500 livestock, 72 fish cages for goods; and develop over 50 hectares of millennium trees. The change in the way of doing business helps people have a more and more prosperous life, the commune will meet the new rural standards by the end of 2024.

In order to achieve the goal of restructuring the agricultural sector, Quynh Nhai district has effectively mobilized and integrated capital from programs and projects to support people in building new or expanding production models. The focus is on promoting local strengths in cage fish farming, large-scale livestock farming, converting crops on sloping land and developing medicinal plant cultivation under forest canopy. Currently, the whole district is implementing the Concentrated Agricultural and Forestry Product Production Area Project of Lien Viet Son La Joint Stock Company with a scale of more than 240 hectares of macadamia trees, an output of 1,100 tons/year, and an investment capital of 51.2 billion VND. To date, the project has planted 63 hectares of macadamia trees, and will continue to be implemented in the coming time. The whole district currently has nearly 2,000 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds, with an output of over 4,800 tons in 2024; maintaining 4,500 fish cages on the lake, with a farming and catching output of more than 1,800 tons/year. In addition, the district is implementing 8 models of breeding cows, breeding bulls, raising catfish, intensively growing pineapples, fruit trees, supporting the development of production linked to the value chain. Currently, Quynh Nhai has 3 OCOP products: frozen Da River fish, Chieng Khoang sticky rice and Java lemongrass essential oil, continuing to develop OCOP products from seafood and Nam Et orange products.

Mr. Lo Thanh Thuy, Vice Chairman of Quynh Nhai District People's Committee, said: In recent years, Quynh Nhai District has integrated capital sources, especially capital from national target programs, to allocate to projects and sub-projects covering many areas. In particular, focusing on implementing production models to create sustainable livelihoods and reduce poverty, helping people stabilize their lives, contributing to changing the rural appearance of the district.

With a practical approach, Quynh Nhai has been guiding and supporting people in the district to build and develop production models that bring practical efficiency, taking advantage of and promoting the potential and strengths of the locality. This result is also a solid foundation for the Party Committee, government and people of Quynh Nhai communes after the arrangement and merger to continue to promote and develop the agricultural economy.
