Working together for community life

Union members and students of Hong Duc University participate in building rural roads in Phu Le commune (formerly Quan Hoa district) in the 2024 summer volunteer campaign.

Over the years, the slogan "Hong Duc University Youth Union is proactive and volunteering for community life" has always been promoted by a large number of union members and students of the school and has become a beautiful feature in the union work and youth movement. From this slogan, the Hong Duc University Youth Union has widely deployed community activities such as blood donation, helping children go to school, volunteering to build new rural areas... In the past 3 years, the school's Youth Union has organized over 150 meaningful volunteer activities, attracting more than 5,000 union members and students to participate. Secretary of the Hong Duc University Youth Union Truong Ngoc Binh said: The highlight of the volunteer movement joining hands for community life of the school's Youth Union is to effectively deploy and maintain the volunteer program to build rural areas in the form of supporting the concreting of inter-village and hamlet roads in mountainous districts of the province.

Accordingly, over the past 3 years, the student volunteers have called for contributions of more than 200 million VND in raw materials and thousands of working days, coordinating with people in many localities in mountainous areas to repair, upgrade, and concrete many inter-village and inter-hamlet roads. At the same time, hundreds of gifts were presented to families with preferential policies and poor students who have overcome difficulties, worth tens of millions of VND. In addition, the student volunteer teams of the school also actively participated in environmental sanitation activities, lighting candles in gratitude at many martyrs' cemeteries; participating in guiding summer activities for teenagers and children; participating in cultural and sports exchanges, giving gifts to commune unions, village and hamlet youth unions.

With the spirit of "A drop of your red blood will be the green color of life for everyone", every year the Youth Union and Student Association of Hong Duc University launch and propagate the meaning and role of humanitarian blood donation. Thereby equipping students with basic knowledge about health, responsibilities and obligations of each person towards society and the community... From this activity, responding to the programs "Red Sunday", "Pink Spring Festival", "Red Journey connecting Vietnamese blood"... each year the school has more than 1,000 students registering to donate blood. The drops of blood that young people share have contributed to helping many patients overcome their illnesses and find joy in life.

Not only Hong Duc University, other units such as Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Thanh Hoa Medical College, Thanh Hoa Industrial College have also launched a widespread and effective movement of joining hands and volunteering for community life among students. In addition to activities specific to each training unit such as: Donating blood; examining and consulting on health care for the poor; building playgrounds for children... school units also coordinate to organize large-scale activities. For example, in response to the 2024 "Green Summer" student volunteer program, 53 students from Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Thanh Hoa Medical College, Thanh Hoa Industrial College, together with members of the Youth Union of the Provincial Youth Union, coordinated to carry out many meaningful tasks in Nam Xuan commune (formerly Quan Hoa district) such as: supporting the repair of the But Xuan village cultural house, supporting the renovation of Nam Xuan Kindergarten; organizing new youth tree planting and summer activities for children; participating in cleaning the environment, visiting and giving gifts to families with preferential policies and children in difficult circumstances; organizing training classes on drowning prevention skills, basic first aid, providing free medicine to 200 households, and offering incense at the martyrs' cemetery. These meaningful and practical activities have left a good impression in the hearts of local people.

In fact, volunteer activities of university and college students not only contribute to the effective implementation of social security work but also create conditions for training, educating and building a new generation of young people with a high sense of responsibility, ready to take on difficult tasks for the community. From that meaning, the youth union and student association of schools determined to continue to promote and develop comprehensively, continuously join hands and volunteer for the community in the student union in many fields. Thereby, providing more support to the people, especially those in remote areas, in building cultural life, developing the economy , as well as creating an environment for each student union to exchange, learn, acquire practical experience, foster awareness, ideals and revolutionary actions, while improving the quality of union and student union movement activities in schools.
