Efficiency from the pilot model

Lau Market in Bac Binh Commune, Lam Dong Province is one of four pilot food safety market models with an investment of 250 million VND, applying TCVN 11856:2017 standards. As a second-class rural market, Lau Market not only meets the buying and selling needs of local people but also plays a role as a trading center for neighboring areas, contributing to promoting local socio -economic development.

According to the representative of Lau Market Management Board, to ensure food safety standards, businesses at the market are trained in knowledge and sign a commitment to comply with food hygiene and safety regulations. The market infrastructure has also been improved, and fresh food stalls have been installed with a drainage system to treat wastewater before discharging it into the environment. The cleaning team maintains sweeping, collecting trash, and washing the stall floors every day after trading hours, helping the market to always be clean and the goods displayed for sale to be eye-catching.

A representative of the Lau Market Management Board said: The Market Management Force regularly guides and supports the Market Management Board in organizing the signing of commitments with small traders to ensure food safety. The Lau Market Management Board determined that continuous propaganda and reminders for small traders to comply with regulations, combined with signing commitments with small traders are key solutions to effectively maintain the food safety market model, creating trust for consumers.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Lam Dong province, from 2015 to present, the whole province has built and expanded 6 pilot food safety market models at Lau market (Bac Binh commune), Nhan Co market (Nhan Co commune), Dak Song market (Duc An commune), Da Lat market (Xuan Huong ward - Da Lat), Bao Loc market (Ward 1, Bao Loc) and Di Linh market (Di Linh commune). To effectively implement the model, the industry and trade sector has supported equipment for rapid food safety testing, training and knowledge training for market management units and traders. Coordinated with the market management board and food businesses at the market to equip trash cans, signs, glass tables and cabinets for food stalls, etc. Thereby, traders' awareness of food safety is increasingly improved, businesses comply with regulations, and do not allow major violations or epidemics from food sources sold at the market.

Along with the pilot market model, Lam Dong province has also promoted the construction of model markets to ensure food safety in localities. To date, 4 model markets have been deployed, including: Bao Loc ward market, Di Linh market, Dinh Van - Lam Ha market and Da Lay - Da Teh market.

Small traders change awareness, proactively update food safety regulations

The driving force behind new rural construction

The implementation of the food safety pilot market model not only helps improve food quality but also contributes to the implementation of criterion number 7 on commercial infrastructure in new rural development. This is an important step in ensuring public health and promoting sustainable economic development in rural areas.

According to the National Criteria for Advanced New Rural Communes for the 2021-2025 period, each commune must have at least one pilot market model that ensures food safety or a market that meets food business standards. Replicating the food safety market model is both a mandatory requirement and a fundamental solution to raise people's awareness of building a civilized and professional business environment right from the grassroots level, promoting local economic development.

The market is now cleaner and more airy than before. The goods are fresh and sold out within the day, so people feel more secure when going to the market.

According to the assessment of the Department of Industry and Trade, localities have successfully implemented the food safety market model, and market management boards have improved operational efficiency, ensuring a safe and clean business environment. Small traders have also gradually changed their awareness, proactively updated food safety regulations, strictly complied with conditions on the origin and source of raw materials and products; at the same time, formed the habit of recording and tracing the origin of food in business and processing.

In the coming time, localities need to continue to replicate this model, promote propaganda and training for small traders and increase periodic inspections to ensure that food safety standards are maintained in the long term.

In the period of 2020 - 2025, the Department of Industry and Trade of the province has recognized 67 commune markets that meet new rural standards, of which 14 markets meet the standards of advanced new rural trade infrastructure according to TCVN 11856:2017 including the markets: Tra Tan, Nam Chinh, Vu Hoa, Sung Nhon, Me Pu, Dong Ha, Tan Ha, Duc Hanh, Ham Cuong, Ham Minh, Ham Liem, Tan Phuoc, Bac Ruong and Tan Duc. Applying this standard helps market management units operate effectively, traders grasp and comply with food safety regulations, thereby forming civilized and professional business habits.
