MU has the opportunity to recruit Nkunku at a deep discount. |
According to The Athletic , Chelsea initially valued Nkunku at £65 million, a figure commensurate with his potential and the £52 million fee they paid to bring him from RB Leipzig in 2023. However, in the context of Nkunku's inability to secure a starting position, "The Blues" are willing to accept a price of only £43 million.
The 27-year-old endured a frustrating 2024/25 campaign, making just nine Premier League starts and not even being used in the Conference League final against Real Betis in May.
On the MU side, coach Ruben Amorim is still looking for more reinforcements for the attack, although the team has signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Nkunku has emerged as a potential option, after being approached by the "Red Devils" in January, when the player himself refused to leave on loan.
In addition to MU, both Arsenal and Bayern Munich also made inquiries with Chelsea during the winter transfer window, but no official offers were made.
Currently, with a more affordable price, the Nkunku - MU deal can progress quickly if the Old Trafford club really wants to step up negotiations in the coming weeks.
Another key factor in the deal being made possible is Christopher Vivell, Manchester United's current director of recruitment. Vivell has a good relationship with Nkunku, having previously worked as technical director at Chelsea and RB Leipzig.
