On the afternoon of June 30, Chelsea officially completed the transfer of Joao Pedro from Brighton Club with a total transfer fee of up to 60 million pounds (82 million USD), including 55 million pounds upfront and 5 million additional fees.
Pedro, 23, has been a Premier League star for the past two years, scoring 30 goals in 70 appearances for Brighton.
Highly regarded for his versatility, the Brazilian striker started his career as an attacking midfielder, but is often given the role of a central striker for Brighton.
In addition to his good finishing, Pedro also possesses the skillful dribbling ability familiar to Brazilian football stars. In the transfer market, Pedro is valued at around 45 million pounds.
Even more exciting for Chelsea is that they can register Pedro right from the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup. The tournament organizers have set July 3 as the deadline for registering players for the tournament, so Pedro could play in Chelsea's upcoming match against Palmeiras if there are no technical problems.
On the contrary, new signing Bynoe Gittens, who was also bought by Chelsea for £55 million from Dortmund, could not play. The reason is that the English midfielder played in the FIFA Club World Cup for Dortmund, and the rules do not allow a player to play for two teams in the tournament.
Pedro's presence certainly brings many positives for Chelsea, especially when they face a Brazilian team in the quarter-finals.
Chelsea fans are now fed up with the "sunny morning, rainy afternoon" striker Nicolas Jackson, while new player Delap is not highly rated for his ability.
