Issued since July 2023, the Project has had a profound impact, helping to improve nutrition and stature for children in mountainous, ethnic minority and mountainous areas of the province. One of the important highlights of the Project is the establishment and operation of "Child Care and Education " models. In 2024, the province established 21 new models in mountainous communes.
Not only stopping at regular activities, the models are also equipped with books to track children's height and weight. Every month, the management board coordinates with the commune health station to organize weighing and updating children's development index, helping parents promptly grasp their nutritional status, thereby adjusting their diet and care accordingly.
Along with replicating the model, propaganda, education and training work has been widely deployed in many localities. From 2024 to present, the whole province has organized nearly 70 training courses on malnutrition prevention, reproductive health care, and proper nutrition for pregnant women and women with young children; 54 communication conferences at the grassroots level. Nearly 5,000 people, including women's union officials, village and hamlet health workers, propagandists, and women's union members have been exposed to knowledge and skills in scientific child care.
In particular, the Provincial Women's Union coordinated with the Health Department and the Provincial Center for Disease Control to compile communication materials suitable for regional cultural characteristics; published 14,000 leaflets and propaganda materials; organized 4 television programs, 4 radio programs and hundreds of articles in newspapers, fanpages, and zalo. Many localities mobilized thousands of gifts of milk, food, vitamins, and warm clothes to support disadvantaged children.
One of the most obvious results of the Project is the change in awareness and behavior of fathers and mothers in remote areas. If in the past, raising children was mainly based on traditional experience, now many fathers and mothers know how to breastfeed properly, supplement micronutrients appropriately, and build a scientific diet from locally available foods. Children are closely monitored for height and weight, fully vaccinated, and given vitamins regularly.
In particular, models and clubs such as “Mothers and Children ensure nutrition”, “Prevention of malnutrition for children”, “Parents group for comprehensive care and education for children”, and the contest “Knowledge of mothers and children’s health” have become useful spaces for living, exchanging and learning for families with young children. Here, members share many practical situations in child care, such as children with poor appetite, slow weight gain, psychological crisis... and together find effective solutions.
Not only deployed from the state budget, the Project also effectively mobilized socialized resources. In 2024, women's unions at all levels mobilized nearly 1.6 billion VND (cash and in kind) to support member families and children affected by natural disasters. Organizations and businesses accompanied the women's unions to donate thousands of milk packages, fuel-saving stoves, and warm clothes to children in mountainous areas. In particular, the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" has helped many families in difficult circumstances have better conditions to take care of their children.
In the coming time, the Provincial Women's Union will continue to replicate the model of "Child Care and Education" in disadvantaged areas, organize competitions, seminars, and specialized classes to raise awareness, knowledge of nutrition, and child-rearing skills for the people. In addition, it will focus on integrating the content of the Project with major programs such as Project 938 and Project 8, contributing to the effective implementation of sustainable development goals for children, gender equality, and social security in ethnic minority areas.
