Explaining the “elimination” of the C00 group, most schools said that this was consistent with teaching practices and the goal of internationalizing the school’s program and regulations from the Ministryof Education and Training on giving schools the initiative in choosing admission methods and groups. However, with less than 20 days left until the 2025 High School Graduation Exam, many candidates who had chosen the C group for university admission felt like they were “sitting on fire”, worried about this sudden change.
In response to public opinion, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued an official dispatch requesting all universities, academies, and colleges to review their admission methods and combinations to ensure fairness and not affect the rights of candidates, especially when they have registered for the high school graduation exam. Schools must explain if they change their methods and combinations to ensure the rights of candidates.
Immediately after this document, some schools adjusted the admission combination, bringing combination C00 back as one of the combinations for admission as before.
Block C has long been the choice of many students with abilities in the fields of social sciences and humanities. This is also a suitable exam block for majors that require critical thinking, logical reasoning, the ability to analyze society, history, and politics - important factors in fields such as law, journalism, pedagogy, sociology, state management, etc. However, currently, many professions in this group are recruited using unrelated combinations, such as: Math, Physics, English or Literature, Math, English, causing deviation in training and career choices of students.
One of the biggest shortcomings is the imbalance in admission opportunities. Students who are good at Literature, History, and Geography often do not have strengths in natural sciences and have to "struggle" to study inappropriate combinations to meet the admission requirements. This increases the pressure of studying, reduces the effectiveness of exam preparation, and affects the input quality of the majors themselves. On the other hand, using inappropriate combinations to enroll students in social-oriented majors can easily lead to the phenomenon of "deviation" - students do not have a solid foundation of social thinking, thereby affecting the quality of training and human resources in the future.
Designing a reasonable admission combination is not only the responsibility of universities in selecting suitable candidates but also demonstrates the spirit of humanity and fairness in education. The complete removal of block C in the admission process needs to be recalculated in a flexible way and consider maintaining many different combinations, ensuring that students can apply for admission based on their real strengths.
