Need a "boost" for tourism in the south of Da Nang

Located in the southernmost part of Da Nang city, the 6 communes of Nui Thanh, Tam Hai, Tam My, Tam Anh, Tam Xuan, Duc Phu have great potential for tourism development, however, in reality, these areas have not attracted tourists. Localities are in need of a “push” in promoting and mobilizing resources to develop the “smokeless industry”.

Advantages and potentials

The communes of Nui Thanh, Tam Hai, Tam My, Tam Anh, Tam Xuan, Duc Phu have many famous historical relics and scenic spots such as the Nui Thanh Victory Relic Site, the Memorial Site of President of the State Council Vo Chi Cong, Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua, Ho Giang Thom, Suoi Na Nghe, Bien Ran - Nui Thanh, Bai Ran - Tam Tien...

The communes also have a 37km long coastline with 2 large estuaries, National Highway 1A, North-South railway, Nui Thanh station and ports: Ky Ha, Chu Lai - Truong Hai.

Along with that, the transport infrastructure has developed, especially large projects such as Vo Chi Cong road, Da Nang - Quang Ngai highway, Chu Lai airport; East - West connecting routes have been and are being invested in upgrading and building new ones, creating momentum for tourism development.

In recent years, localities have invested in infrastructure and physical conditions to serve tourism development. For example, the Nui Thanh Victory Monument has received an investment of 60 billion VND for restoration and embellishment. Revolutionary historical relics and scenic spots in the area have also been renovated in the period 2021 - 2025.

Many accommodation and food service establishments in the 5 communes above have been invested in and built by the private sector, and currently there are 74 accommodation establishments serving tourists with more than 1,110 rooms. In addition to the 2 large establishments, Tuiblue Nam Hoi An Resort and Bai Ran Tourist Service Area, the communes also have a system of hotels and restaurants that are spacious and modern.

Localities also build and develop tourism products such as the coastal fishing festival; restore Tich Tay water coconut forest, Tam My fruit garden, zone off the protection of the Ho Giang Thom scenic relic, preserve the national intangible cultural heritage "Hat Ba Trao", preserve the grey-shanked douc langur herd in Tam My commune...

Mr. Huynh Van Cuong, Chairman of Tam Hai Commune People's Committee, said that the types of tourism in the locality are becoming more and more diverse. Regarding sea tourism, there are Bien Ran - Tam Quang, Bai Ran, fish market - Tam Tien, Ban Than - Tam Hai, Bai Bac - Tam Hai, Hon Mang - Hon Dua Tam Hai; eco-tourism includes Ho Giang Thom, Bai Ran - Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua...; cultural and historical tourism includes the Nui Thanh Victory Monument, the Memorial Site of President of the State Council Vo Chi Cong...

From 2021 to now, the number of tourists to the communes has increased rapidly. In 2021, there were 2,000 visitors (including 140 foreign visitors); in 2024, it increased to 39,950 visitors (including 1,300 foreign visitors)...

Need a "push" to develop

In fact, over the past years, the planning of land funds for tourism business activities in the above communes has encountered difficulties and has not been resolved. The management of the current status, land planning, scenic spots and relics still has many limitations, leading to illegal encroachment, illegal construction and illegal planting of trees on the land of scenic spots and relics.

At the scenic spots of Ban Than - Hon Mang - Hon Dua, Ho Giang Thom, Bien Ran... environmental sanitation is not guaranteed.

The work of establishing dossiers for tourism projects in the area encountered many planning difficulties, leading to initial facilities not meeting the conditions for establishing dossiers to request recognition of tourist areas and spots.

The infrastructure for tourism is not yet adequate. The tourism products here are still monotonous; the tourist attractions have not yet fully exploited the potential and inherent strengths of the locality to retain tourists.

Community participation in tourism activities in tourist areas and destinations is still limited. Accommodation service infrastructure, entertainment and shopping venues, and typical tourism products and specialties associated with the region are still scarce...

After the merger of Quang Nam and Da Nang city, the above 6 communes will have many new opportunities to develop tourism. However, the localities need a "push" from the government and related sectors of Da Nang city to overcome difficulties, creating a premise for the development of the tourism industry.

First of all, it is necessary to create regional linkages, promote propaganda, investment promotion, tourism promotion; mobilize and support travel businesses to connect tours and routes of tourist areas and destinations in the area.

In addition, improve the quality of exploited tourism products, build new tourism products associated with building tourism brands; connect Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An tourism, Ly Son Island - Quang Ngai with 6 communes: Nui Thanh, Tam Hai, Tam My, Tam Anh, Tam Xuan, Duc Phu - the southernmost area of Da Nang city.
