On August 5, Military Hospital 175 ( Ministry of National Defense ) officially opened the Tuberculosis Screening Clinic before entering Japan, after being designated by the Japanese Government through the Center for Tuberculosis Screening Program Quality Assessment (CJPQA) of this country.

This is the 6th medical facility in Ho Chi Minh City and the 12th nationwide, and is also the first public facility in Ho Chi Minh City designated to conduct screening and issue Tuberculosis Free Certificates - a mandatory condition when entering Japan.

Major General, People's Physician Tran Quoc Viet, Director of Military Hospital 175 (Ministry of National Defense) shared that recently, this place has cooperated with Japan through many activities.

Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Hospital is the unit that ensures testing and vaccination for foreign citizens, especially Japanese citizens.

The tuberculosis screening project was initiated by the Consulate General of Japan to the Hospital. This is an opportunity for the Hospital to implement and ensure good primary health care not only for Japanese citizens but also for other groups, such as labor export workers.

After all the arduous preparations, lasting about 2 years, up to now, Military Hospital 175 has met the strict requirements, with 4 assessments from the Japanese health sector and the International Organization for Migration.

Major General Tran Quoc Viet emphasized that in the near future, Military Hospital 175 will strive to achieve quality standards in diagnosis and treatment, to become one of the six hospitals of international standard, according to the orientation of the Ministry of Health and the Government.

The Director of Military Hospital 175 also thanked all parties who have supported the unit in the past time, especially the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry's Office in the South (now the Ministry of Home Affairs).

Lieutenant Colonel, PhD, Doctor Nguyen Hai Cong, Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine, Head of the Clinic said that currently, international students and workers have a very high demand for entering Japan.

The fact that the Clinic has been licensed by Japan marks an important step in putting an international standard facility into operation. Thereby, helping the hospital gradually improve the quality of health care for subjects examined and screened for tuberculosis in immigration in particular and patients in general.

According to Dr. Cong, Vietnam is a country with a high prevalence of tuberculosis, both active and latent. Most tuberculosis patients in the community, if they do not have severe symptoms, are often ignored.

There are subjective cases, thinking that sore throat, normal cough due to smoking and not going for early screening, leading to the disease being detected in the late stage, causing serious complications such as respiratory failure, severe lung damage...

Doctor Cong recommends that to prevent the disease, people need to comply with the national vaccination program for newborns and proactively vaccinate adults who have not been vaccinated; maintain a scientific lifestyle, work, and diet to have resistance and strengthen immunity.

When experiencing symptoms such as prolonged dry cough, low fever in the evening, unexplained weight loss... you need to see a doctor early for timely treatment. In particular, people with tuberculosis should absolutely not be subjective and stop treatment halfway even if the symptoms disappear, because it can lead to the formation of drug-resistant tuberculosis strains...
