Billiards: Tran Quyet Chien acted extremely fair-play, convincingly defeated Chiem Hong Thai

Tran Quyet Chien had a convincing victory over Chiem Hong Thai at the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation (HBSF) round 2 - Min Table Cup 2025. In this match, Vietnam's number 1 player had a fair-play action with his junior.

On the afternoon of August 4, Tran Quyet Chien faced Chiem Hong Thai in the second match of Group F, the main round of the HBSF Billiards Tournament, Stage 2, 2025. This was a very important match for Quyet Chien, as the number 1 player in Vietnam needed to win to keep his hopes of advancing to the knockout round (16 players). Previously, in the opening match, Quyet Chien lost to Nguyen Thanh Liem with a score of 37-40, after 18 rounds.

Tran Quyet Chien missed the chance to score

In this match, Tran Quyet Chien and Chiem Hong Thai both started the game quite slowly. Although both wanted to win and each point was very valuable, both players played very fair-play.

Chiem Hong Thai's sensitive tackle in the match against Tran Quyet Chien

In the 11th turn, Tran Quyet Chien gave up the opportunity to score a point in the saw-edge shot (the ball shape is considered Quyet Chien's forte), giving the turn to return to the table to his "junior" Chiem Hong Thai. Specifically, in the previous shot, Hong Thai had a rather sensitive a-edge shot (it was impossible to determine whether it had 3 cushions or not). However, the player born in 1999 did not argue and went straight to his seat. Meanwhile, Tran Quyet Chien, observing from the outside, thought that Hong Thai's shot had enough cushions, scoring a valid point.

That was the reason why Tran Quyet Chien had no intention of scoring in the next situation.

In this match, Tran Quyet Chien had the highest series of 7 points, in the 13th turn. The player from Ha Tinh brought the match into halftime in the 14th turn, leading Chiem Hong Thai 22-11.

Tran Quyet Chien has no intention of scoring points in his specialty of curling.

Chiem Hong Thai did not have the best feeling when facing his senior. Tran Quyet Chien, although not playing very well, still completely controlled the game.

Vietnam's No. 1 player won 40-28 after 25 rounds. With this victory, Tran Quyet Chien still has a lot of hope to continue to the round of 16, 3-cushion carom event, HBSF round 2, 2025. In the decisive match of the group stage, Tran Quyet Chien will face Chau Hong Thai.

The top two players in each group won tickets to the round of 16, quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals to compete for the championship. This was also Tran Quyet Chien's first day of competition at the HBSF round 2 in 2025.
