Attacked by a rooster, a man almost lost his eye because the spur pierced him deeply.

Previously, while feeding the chickens, the man was suddenly kicked in the face by a rooster that flew up. The wound initially bled and swelled his right cheek, then was treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs at a local medical facility. However, the condition became more severe, with swelling, pain, and pus discharge, so the patient went to Hoa Lu Eye Hospital for examination.

Doctor Trinh The Son, Head of the General Planning and Quality Management Department of the hospital, said: Through examination, an abscess was discovered in the lower eyelid, next to the root of the nose. During surgery, the team discovered a sharp foreign object 2.8cm long in the abscess - an ivory-white cock spur, only 1cm from the eyeball. Fortunately, the eyeball was not damaged.

“This is a very rare case. A large foreign object, located near the eye, if not detected promptly can cause widespread infection, even leading to life-threatening sepsis,” said Dr. Trinh The Son.

The patient is now conscious and in stable health after surgery. He said he felt like “a thorn had been removed from his body.” The swelling in his face has significantly reduced and the pain has gone away.

Doctors recommend that people should not be subjective with facial injuries, especially near the eyes. Many foreign objects such as chicken spurs, wood, and small metals can penetrate deep into soft tissue, making them difficult to detect. Improper or delayed treatment can easily lead to serious infections, vision damage, and even endanger life.
