Protecting coastal and Central Highlands forest capital

Lam Dong province has a rich forest ecosystem, typical of both the coastal midland and the Central Highlands, including evergreen closed forests, tropical humid rainforests, mixed broadleaf and coniferous forests, and many rare species of flora and fauna with high conservation and scientific value.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong, the total estimated budget for the task of protecting forest capital in Lam Dong province in 2025 is nearly 798.3 billion VND, reaching nearly 98.3% of the plan. From the budget allocated at the beginning of 2025 to date, the province has carried out 630 propaganda and legal education sessions on forest protection management and fire prevention and fighting, attracting 14,887 participants. Thereby, the organization signed 602 commitments and built 6 forest protection conventions.

In the first 7 months of 2025 alone, the province planted 1,013 hectares of protective, special-use and production forests; and protected and promoted regeneration of 58 hectares of forests, reaching nearly 31% and 3.2% of the plan, respectively. This rate is estimated to reach 100% by December 2025.

Of which, from state budget investment sources, replacement forest planting, forest environmental services, loan capital, joint ventures of forestry LLCs, the rate of controlled forestry tree varieties in Lam Dong province in 2025 is estimated to reach more than 50.2%. The productivity of planted forests mainly from pine, acacia and eucalyptus groups increased by an average of about 15 m ³ / ha / year, especially intensively planted forests with tissue culture seedlings reached an average of 37 m ³ / ha / year. Up to now, the whole province has supported forest protection contracts for nearly 39,463.3 ha; supported forest protection for more than 2,867.1 ha; developed and implemented sustainable forest management plans of forest owner organizations reaching nearly 470,718.6 ha; granted certificates of sustainable management of natural forests and planted forests for about 9,340 ha.

The general assessment shows that the work of forest protection and development management in the province has been implemented quite effectively by all levels, sectors, units and localities, notably maintaining forest cover at 46.72%. The rates of forest planting, exploitation of planted forest timber, and forest protection contracts are estimated to reach 100% of the plan by December this year.

The goal in 2026 is to plant 2,345 hectares of 3 types of forests: protection, special-use, and production, while simultaneously implementing silvicultural measures to improve forest quality, increase _CO2 absorption capacity, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, maintain forest cover at 46.72%, contributing to sustainable forestry development and building a green, environmentally friendly Lam Dong province. Specifically, protecting 151,019 hectares of special-use forests; nearly 322,472.3 hectares of protection forests; 442,632 hectares of production forests; supporting the livelihoods of 40 communities in buffer zones of special-use forests.

In addition, implementing programs and projects to improve forest quality and restore forest ecology, especially in large river basins and upstream areas, to increase coverage and ecological connectivity. Thereby, the whole province focuses on caring for planted forests (7,527 ha); zoning and promoting regeneration with additional afforestation (1,818.2 ha); nurturing forests (nearly 2 ha); supporting the planting of more than 1.6 million scattered trees.
