On the morning of August 25, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha held a meeting of the Frontline Steering Committee on Storm Response No. 5 at the Command Center of Military Region 4, connecting online with the military command points of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri provinces, Hue City, the National Center for Search and Rescue Operations, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, and a number of key areas...
The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to immediately report on the storm’s intensity and the potential impact on the dike system, and propose solutions to ensure people’s safety. “The safety of people’s lives must be the top priority,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
“According to forecasts, storm No. 5 will begin to affect the mainland at around 11am today, so we don’t have much time to prepare. Immediately after the meeting, forces, units and localities must be divided into groups to focus on resolving each key task,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Also at the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of National Defense to coordinate with Viettel and VNPT telecommunications groups to ensure a smooth communication system to serve command and operation. With storm No. 5, the most important task is to maintain communication and mobilize forces promptly, avoiding being passive and surprised.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that from Quang Tri to Thanh Hoa, localities must immediately deploy urgent tasks, to be completed before 11:00 a.m. today. First of all, localities need to mobilize forces to ensure the safety of people in the storm's eye and vulnerable coastal dykes, especially in northern Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh.
"The current dykes are not qualified to withstand the predicted storm level, so we must urgently evacuate people and reinforce them to minimize the risk of breaches and overflows," the Deputy Prime Minister stated.
The Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Construction and localities must immediately issue regulations prohibiting people from going out from 11am to 6pm today – the time when the storm is at its strongest. At the same time, media agencies must continuously update and transmit images and visual information to help people fully understand the level of danger.
