Arsenal are pushing ahead with a move for Valencia's young centre-back Cristhian Mosquera in a bid to bolster their defence this summer.

Mosquera is said to have agreed to join Arsenal.

According to The Athletic , the 20-year-old Spaniard is a top transfer target for manager Mikel Arteta. The deal is progressing quite positively. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added that Mosquera has "given the green light" for Arsenal to complete the deal.

The Gunners have begun negotiating a price with Valencia, with Mosquera having only 12 months left on his contract. The London club see him as an ideal backup for key duo William Saliba and Gabriel, after losing out on Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid.

Mosquera is the versatile defender Arteta is looking for, able to play on the right and at full-back when required. Meanwhile, Jakub Kiwior - who has been a reserve for over two seasons - is said to be on his way out of the Emirates. Juventus and Inter Milan are both keeping tabs on the Polish centre-back.

Mosquera has made 90 appearances for Valencia's first team, including 41 last season. He is also a regular at Spain's youth levels, having made 10 appearances for the under-21s, including against England at this summer's European Championship.

Arsenal have been on a shopping spree after finishing second in the Premier League for three straight seasons. They have completed the signings of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi, which will be announced in the coming days. They have also agreed a deal to sign Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard for £9.3m.

Not stopping there, Arsenal also focused on recruiting a quality striker. They were interested in Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, but the Portuguese club demanded no less than 85 million pounds to let him go. In addition, RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko was also targeted by Arsenal.
