British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said London is ready to support Washington in continuing airstrikes on Ansar Allah (Houthi) rebel positions in Yemen.

In an article published in The Sunday Telegraph , Mr Cameron said: "We have sent a clear message: what the Houthis are doing is wrong and we are determined to stop it. We will work with our allies. We will always defend freedom of navigation. And most importantly, we will be ready to back up our words with action."

Britain's top diplomat pointed out that London and Washington were "in no rush to carry out these attacks" and had repeatedly warned the Houthis about the consequences of attacking ships in the Red Sea.

After nearly two months of Houthi rebels attacking commercial ships passing through the Red Sea - in retaliation, early on the morning of January 12 (local time), the US and UK fired missiles at Houthi bases inside Yemen.

The attack on Houthi bases in Yemen came a day after the United Nations Security Council voted to condemn the Houthis “in the strongest terms”.

The Red Sea and the Suez Canal are important shipping routes, with about 12% of the world's cargo passing through.
