Salernitana players were on a charter flight home from Genoa when several members of the squad began to show symptoms. According to Gazzetta dello Sport , several members of the squad felt unwell after eating a meal prepared at the team hotel. A total of 21 people, including eight players, are said to have suffered stomach problems and were in "severe pain".
When the team arrived at Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi airport, four ambulances were called to deal with the situation, and the players were immediately taken to hospital. Most of the team were discharged after a few hours, but some remained under observation in hospital. Today's team training was cancelled because several players were feeling unwell.
Salernitana have asked for the return leg against Sampdoria to be postponed this weekend.
