42,000 textbooks damaged in storm and flood

TPO - On the morning of September 17, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) informed that storm No. 3 and its circulation had damaged nearly 42,000 textbooks of local students due to water damage.

Up to now, according to the reports of 18/26 provinces and cities sent to the Ministry of Education and Training , as of September 16, the total damage to facilities and teaching equipment is estimated at 1,260 billion VND. It is worth mentioning that storms and floods have also damaged nearly 42,000 textbooks of local students.

Of these, primary school textbooks were damaged and soaked in water the most, up to 24,000 sets; secondary school textbooks were nearly 11,000 sets and high school textbooks were more than 7,000 sets.

In Yen Bai province alone, nearly 20,000 students lost or damaged textbooks, and the cost to buy textbooks is estimated at over 9 billion VND.

After the storm and flood, books and teaching equipment of many schools were severely damaged.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the unit and the Vietnam Education Trade Union organized a ceremony to launch the Education sector to support people affected by storm No. 3. The initial results were to receive more than 8 billion VND in cash and 3.5 billion VND in kind, including school supplies and notebooks.

Following the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training, publishers have also supported students in flood-affected areas with specific activities such as: donating 2,000 sets of books; mobilizing 12.5 million copies of books in stock; proposing to print an additional 10 million copies; and donating 719 million VND to the Vietnam Education Trade Union.

However, with the current large damage to facilities and textbooks, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Education Trade Union continue to call for and mobilize funding to support students.
