This year, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Professor Odon Vallet (Sorbone University, Paris) and Professor Tran Thanh Van and his wife (Chairman of the Vietnam Meeting in France) could not return from France to Vietnam to directly award scholarships to outstanding Vietnamese students as in previous years. Professor Odon Vallet and Professor Tran Thanh Van sent a clip of their speech to share with students.
In his speech, Professor Tran Thanh Van recalled Uncle Ho's letter to students on the first school opening day of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (September 15, 1945): "Whether Vietnam's mountains and rivers become beautiful or not, whether the Vietnamese people can step up to the stage of glory to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers or not, depends largely on your studies."
Professor Tran Thanh Van emphasized that today's students are the future of the nation, the burden of building the country lies on their shoulders. Through that, Professor Tran Thanh Van said that he and Professor Odon Vallet always hope that Vietnamese students will overcome all difficulties to study and contribute to building the country.
In order to foster young talents who are excellent students of Vietnam, the Rencontres du Vietnam and Professor Odon Vallet have established the Vallet – Rencontres du Vietnam Scholarship Fund since 2001. Every year, the scholarship organizing committee selects and awards scholarships to outstanding students from across the country.
