VUFO - ICAP will play a pioneering role in deepening the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.

On September 4 in Hanoi, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Phan Anh Son received Vice President of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Peoples (ICAP) Víctor Fidel Gaute Lopez, on the occasion of the ICAP delegation's visit to Vietnam to attend the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2. The two sides affirmed their determination to continue deepening the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, in which VUFO and ICAP will play a pioneering role.

ICAP Vice President Víctor Fidel Gaute Lopez sincerely thanked VUFO for the thoughtful reception, creating conditions for the delegation to meet international friends as planned; and shared his impressions of the heroic atmosphere on Vietnam's important holiday.

He assessed that the Vietnam-Cuba relationship is developing well and moving towards new heights. The establishment of the Ho Chi Minh Department at the University of Havana and the University of the Communist Party of Cuba, according to him, is a vivid demonstration of the special friendship, and at the same time demonstrates the responsibility of the Cuban side in spreading Ho Chi Minh's ideology to the people, especially the young generation. He affirmed that 2025, which was declared the "Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year", will add more motivation for the two sides to bring people-to-people cooperation to new heights.

Referring to specific results, the ICAP leader said that recently, the Cuban children's group that won the prize in the "Cuba and Vietnam: A friendship without borders" contest visited Da Nang and offered incense at the Memorial House of Hero Nguyen Van Troi - the person whose school in Cuba is named after. He was also moved to express his gratitude for the campaign to support the Cuban people chaired by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society , in coordination with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association and many related agencies and units; emphasizing that this was an "unprecedented" activity, demonstrating the sincere solidarity of the Vietnamese people.

Regarding the direction of cooperation, ICAP proposed to work with VUFO to increase theoretical and practical exchanges, organize seminars, joint working groups, and promote the network from central to local levels to choose the most practical approach for the goal of peace, solidarity, and friendship. ICAP invited the President of VUFO to visit Cuba and informed about the 65th anniversary of ICAP's founding, scheduled to take place at the end of 2025, with the expectation of the participation of VUFO and the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association. Mr. Víctor Fidel Gaute López also mentioned activities towards the 100th anniversary of the birth of leader Fidel Castro in 2026, and highly appreciated the role of the network of former Vietnamese students who studied in Cuba.

Speaking at the meeting, VUFO President Phan Anh Son said that VUFO and the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association are always looking for more flexible and effective approaches in cooperation with ICAP, the Cuba - Vietnam Friendship Association and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam. He suggested focusing on fostering understanding and affection for Cuba among Vietnamese youth through thematic talks and exchange activities; at the same time, expanding connections between localities, research institutes, universities and businesses of the two sides to form specific cooperation products. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining regular and timely information exchange between VUFO, ICAP and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam.

The Vice President of ICAP expressed his high agreement with the proposals of the President of VUFO, affirming that the two sides will maintain close, natural and sincere communication channels, contributing to promoting substantive cooperation programs in the coming time.
