Luka Modric sent a powerful message to doubters as he turned 40, marking a milestone in a prolific career.

Modric is resilient at 40.

On his 40th birthday, Modric posted a short but powerful sentence on the social media platform X : "Age is just a number." Modric's message came after he played well to help Croatia defeat Montenegro 4-0 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on September 9.

Modric is considered a football phenomenon, like the "Peter Pan" of the sports world. He "refuses" to grow old and hang up his boots, unlike many of his teammates who have left the field. Modric still maintains excellent form and continues to compete at the top level.

This summer, the Croatian star signed a free transfer to AC Milan after a hugely successful spell at Real Madrid. During his long career, Modric has won six Champions League titles, six FIFA Club World Cups, four La Liga titles and a Ballon d'Or. The former Tottenham midfielder was the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner, the same year he led Croatia to the 2018 World Cup final and was named the tournament's best player in Russia.

"There is no sign of Modric retiring anytime soon, and it would be great to see him enjoying his illustrious career for a little longer," Goal wrote. "Modric will now continue playing into his 40s, and it remains to be seen when he will hang up his boots."
