According to KCNA, 250 new tactical ballistic missile launchers were unveiled at a grand event in Pyongyang on August 3. The launchers were described by state media as powerful, modern tactical strike weapons designed by Kim Jong Un himself and ready for transfer to units of the Korean People's Army (KPA).

In a speech to troops and military scientists at the event, Kim said Pyongyang would strengthen its nuclear readiness in the near future to deter nuclear threats and defend itself against any challenges.

The North Korean leader described the missile as "a new core strike weapon of our armed forces," reaffirming his stance that stockpiling and improving nuclear weapons is the best way to counter nuclear threats and pressure from the United States.

According to NK News, the launchers appear to be transporter-launcher vehicles (TELs) for the Hwasong-11D short-range ballistic missile (SRBM), a missile that Kim has previously claimed can be tipped with a nuclear warhead. Each of the 250 new TELs can carry four missiles.

Kim Jong Un said the escalating military confrontation had prompted him to plan to mass produce the SRBM system.

The North Korean leader also said peace was guaranteed by "unparalleled and absolute self-defence capabilities", adding that "this is only the first stage of our frontline rocket force build-up" and that "we will show the whole world a true view of new-generation military equipment every year".

Following Kim Jong Un's speech, frontline units paraded with new mobile launchers. Kim Jong Un also ordered them to quickly conduct drills.
