Illegal sand mining on the Red River busted, 6 suspects detained

(Dan Tri) - Hanoi Traffic Police Department has just coordinated with functional units to destroy a large illegal sand mining case on the Red River, temporarily detaining 6 subjects.


On the evening of January 22, the Hanoi Traffic Police Department informed that this unit, in coordination with other functional forces, had just cracked down on an illegal sand mining case on the Red River, temporarily detaining 6 subjects and 2 watercraft.

The detained subjects include: Do Van T. (born in 1991, from Vinh Phuc), Truong Huu D. (born in 1988, from Phu Tho), Giap Van N. (born in 1977, from Bac Giang ), Vu Quoc T. (born in 1967, from Vinh Phuc), Tran Manh H. (born in 1982) and Tran Kim L. (born in 1989, from Vinh Phuc).

According to the police, after many days of monitoring, reconnaissance and ambush, at 4:00 p.m. the same day, under the direct command of Colonel Tran Dinh Nghia, Head of the Hanoi Traffic Police Department, Waterway Police Team No. 1 coordinated with Department 8 (Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security ) and Me Linh District Police to inspect and arrest a case of illegal sand mining in the Red River area, in Tien Thinh Commune, Me Linh District.

At that time, the police suddenly inspected the ship PT 2912, when some people on the boat were using sand mining equipment to suck sand from the Red River bed and put it into the cargo hold of the ship VP 1937.

Checking at the scene, the police determined that on board PT 2912 there were three subjects including Do Van T. (born in 1991, from Vinh Phuc) as the driver, Truong Huu D. (born in 1988, from Phu Tho) and Giap Van N. (born in 1977, from Bac Giang), all of whom were employees working on the ship.

On board the VP 1937 there were also three people including Vu Quoc T. (born in 1967, from Vinh Phuc), the driver, Tran Manh H. (born in 1982) and Tran Kim L. (born in 1989, from Vinh Phuc), who were employees working on the ship.

At the time of inspection, the subjects could not present mineral exploitation licenses issued by competent authorities, as well as documents related to the vehicle. In the cargo hold of the ship VP 1937, there were about 100m3 of sand mixed with water, identified as sand recently exploited from the riverbed.

Waterway Police Team No. 1 and the coordinating force have completed the initial documents, brought the violating vehicles to Son Tay port for temporary detention, continued verification and handling according to legal regulations.
