Full scholarship awarded to new student who lost 4 relatives in Ha Long boat capsize

TPO - Nguyen Huu Phuoc has just become a new student at the University of Transport Technology. He is the only survivor of a family of five on a boat that capsized in Ha Long Bay in July.

This morning, University of Transport Technology held the opening ceremony of the new school year 2025-2026.

After the broadcast of the 80th anniversary of the tradition and the opening ceremony of the Ministry of Education and Training , the University of Transport Technology held an opening ceremony and awarded scholarships to new students.

Nguyen Huu Phuoc is one of the students who received the scholarship. He is a new student majoring in Artificial Intelligence and Smart Transportation at the University of Transport Technology.

Phuoc's life has completely changed since the fateful day of July 19th when the cruise ship Green Bay 58, numbered QN-7105, capsized in Ha Long Bay. On that ship, Phuoc had 4 relatives who never returned: his parents, older sister and younger sister. The trip of 5 family members in the bay and in just a moment, Phuoc lost all his loved ones.

Sharing with Tien Phong , Phuoc said that the day he went to the University of Transport Technology to complete the admission procedures, the loss and emptiness seemed even more present when he was alone, but he was guided and supported by the school's teachers.

With the school providing him with free dormitory accommodation, Phuoc has completed the procedures but will spend half of his time at home with his grandparents. His parents and siblings are no longer with him, Phuoc is living with his grandparents and is being protected by his aunt and uncle's family near his house (Dai Thanh, Hanoi ).

The leaders of the University of Transport Technology said that in order to encourage, share and help Phuoc, the school decided to award a full scholarship including 100% tuition exemption, living allowance support of 3 million VND/month, free dormitory accommodation for the entire duration of the course, the total scholarship value is about 250 million VND.

Hopefully, this meaningful scholarship, along with the care and support of teachers and students, will be a solid foundation for Phuoc to confidently step on the path to the future.

Phuoc was happy and touched to receive the support from the school. Initially, Phuoc planned to work part-time while studying, but with the scholarship, living expenses and accommodation support from the school, Phuoc is determined to focus on studying well to achieve the desired results, not letting down the support of the school and teachers.
