Controversy over HCMC restaurant banning pets: Reasonable or strict?

Recently, a notice board of a restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City stating that customers are not allowed to bring pets such as dogs and cats into the restaurant has been spread on social media, causing controversy.

Most netizens expressed support for the restaurant owner's actions in wanting diners to have the best culinary experience, avoiding being bothered by pets such as dogs and cats of customers as well as ensuring food hygiene and safety.

However, another group of netizens objected, saying that posting such a notice was tactless, did not show love for animals, and caused difficulties for many people with pets.

"I hate restaurants, cafes, and eateries that bring dogs in the most, it's very dangerous because there are a lot of dog tapeworms. "This restaurant owner is completely wrong, I disagree. Because many customers do not consider dogs as pets but as children, family members," Nguyen Si account refuted. "In Saigon, people only remind each other, no one posts like that, losing customers," Minhthang Tran expressed.

Sharing with Thanh Nien , the owner of a restaurant that has posted a notice not allowing customers to bring dogs and cats into the restaurant for many years now, said it was not by chance that the restaurant did so.

"Previously, we had many problems when customers brought their dogs into the restaurant and let them run around, barking loudly, affecting other customers. Many times customers complained, so I decided to put up a notice board to let customers know. My restaurant is in a closed space, the smell of animals, fur... will also bring many risks to food safety and customer experience," the restaurant explained.

Although he does not prohibit customers from bringing pets into his restaurant for fear of losing customers, the owner of a snail restaurant in Binh Dong Ward (HCMC) said he is very scared when customers bring dogs and cats.

In fact, there are many shops in Ho Chi Minh City that post signs stating that pets are not allowed inside.

"With well-behaved dogs and cats, it's okay, but with naughty ones, if the owner doesn't know how to manage them, it can have a big impact. In case the pet causes trouble for other customers, our restaurant will also remind their owner," she said.

Although she is a big animal lover and has a cat at home, Ms. Phuong Hoa (25 years old) living in Ho Chi Minh City said that she limits bringing her pet into the shop as much as possible for fear of affecting other customers. According to Ms. Hoa, not everyone can get used to the smell of dogs and cats.

The customer expressed sympathy for restaurants that do not allow dogs or cats inside. According to her, the restaurant owner also does this to avoid affecting surrounding customers.
