Prime Minister: VNPT needs to proactively research, master and apply core technologies

On the afternoon of September 6, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and spoke at the ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the tradition and receive the title of Labor Hero of the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT).

This is the second time VNPT Group has been awarded the title of Hero of Labor for its outstanding achievements in creative labor, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.

In his speech, Mr. To Dung Thai, Chairman of the Board of Members of VNPT Group, shared that through the 80-year journey of formation and development, from the "Specialized Traffic Board" established during the historic August Revolution to the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications industry - the Vietnam information and communications industry, VNPT Group has always been the "eldest son", inheriting the historical tradition of the industry, thereby developing in parallel with the development of the country.

VNPT Chairman To Dung Thai emphasized the goal of building VNPT to develop breakthroughs, contributing to making Vietnam a developed digital country by 2030, with the digital economy accounting for at least 30% of GDP, being in the top 50 countries in the world in terms of digital competitiveness and digital government development index; being in the top 3 countries in Southeast Asia in terms of e-Government and digital economy.

VNPT has constantly innovated, created, and developed. The Prime Minister said that from the postal force that was born during the revolution (August 15, 1945) and was still young, with rudimentary technology, the industry still maintained the "information lifeline".

Over the past 10 years, from a traditional telecommunications provider to today's leading digital technology corporation in the country, a pioneer in many fields, making important contributions to implementing strategic breakthroughs in infrastructure, high-quality human resources and national development.

Those efforts of VNPT contributed to bringing Vietnam for the first time into the group of countries with the "Very High" e-Government Index in 2024, ranking 71/193 countries ranked by the United Nations, up 15 places compared to 2022, contributing to realizing the aspiration of building a prosperous "digital Vietnam".

In the new context, with the orientation of becoming a technology corporation with digital infrastructure, digital technology and digital services as the mainstay, VNPT owns and exploits the platforms and infrastructure pillars of the national digital infrastructure.

Proactively pioneering technology, creating an innovative ecosystem

Accordingly, the head of the Government suggested that VNPT needs to be exemplary and take the lead in research, application of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, pioneering research, and mastering core technology.

Proactively invest, research, master, and apply core and key technologies such as AI, Big Data, Cloud, IoT, 5G/6G, and cybersecurity; need to invest heavily in research labs, cooperate with domestic and international institutes and universities to create "made in Vietnam" technology products and services with high competitiveness.

Proactively create a national innovation ecosystem by building an open ecosystem to accompany and support technology startups to develop and create breakthrough products, services and solutions. VNPT needs to become a "launching pad" for creative ideas, contributing to the formation of a vibrant, interconnected technology community and the economy.

Play a core role in national digital transformation, promote the construction of safe and smooth digital infrastructure for "Digital Government", "Digital Economy", "Digital Society", "Digital Citizen" and support ministries, branches, localities, small and medium enterprises to actively participate in the digital transformation process, shortening the development gap between regions.

Linking economic development with national defense and security tasks, contributing to making the digital economy a new driving force for development. Ensuring network safety and security, maintaining national digital sovereignty; becoming a core force in preventing cyber warfare, protecting citizen data and the political system in the cyber environment.

Building a team of high-quality, far-sighted, politically steadfast cadres and engineers who dare to think, dare to do, dare to take responsibility, dare to commit, dare to sacrifice, and dare to pioneer.
