Crown Prince Frederik is set to become Denmark's next king following the announcement by his mother, Queen Margrethe II, that she will abdicate on January 14, 2024.

Born on May 26, 1968, Crown Prince Frederik André Henrik Christian is the eldest son of Queen Margrethe and the late Duke Henrik.

Crown Prince Frederik has a younger brother, Prince Joachim, and four children with Princess Mary Donaldson (married in 2004), including: Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine.

Crown Prince Frederik is seen as the embodiment of a blend of tradition and modernity, ready to lead Denmark's thousand-year-old monarchy in the future.

Crown Prince Frederik attended primary school at Krebs' Skole in Copenhagen and then attended the École des Roches, a boarding school in Normandy, France.

He was known for his high energy, love of fast cars and partying, which earned him the nickname "the spoiled party prince" in the early 1990s. However, this reputation began to change after he graduated from Aarhus University in 1995, becoming the first member of the Danish royal family to complete a university education . He also spent some time at Harvard University (USA), where he enrolled under the pseudonym Frederik Henriksen. He later served in the Royal Danish Army, the Royal Danish Navy and the Danish Frogmen Corps. He held the ranks of major general in the army and air force and rear admiral in the navy.

The Crown Prince has participated in a number of military exercises and missions, including Operation Friction in the Persian Gulf, Operation Active Endeavour in the Mediterranean, and Operation Ocean Shield in the Horn of Africa. Crown Prince Frederik is also an athlete and an explorer. In addition to participating in marathons, triathlons, etc., he has also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, sailed across the Atlantic and walked to the North Pole. He is a member of the International Olympic Committee and Honorary President of the Danish National Olympic Committee, as well as patron of several sports and cultural associations.

Crown Prince Frederik is fluent in Danish, French, English and German. He has a special interest in science, technology and innovation and is a patron of the Danish Science Festival, Copenhagen Science City and Danish Industry Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund and the Global Green Fund. He is also involved in various initiatives to promote sustainable development, renewable energy and climate action.
