China's most advanced amphibious assault ship appears in the Western Pacific

Recently, Japan discovered China's most advanced amphibious assault ship about 120 km northeast of the Miyako Islands, Okinawa Prefecture.

SCMP newspaper quoted the Japanese Joint Chiefs of Staff on August 19 as saying that two Chinese naval vessels, including a Type 075 amphibious assault ship and a Type 052D guided missile destroyer, were moving southeast between the main islands of Miyako and Okinawa toward the Pacific Ocean on August 17.

Japan said the Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces have been conducting warning monitoring and information gathering.

More than a year ago, a Chinese Type 075 also appeared in the western Pacific near the first island chain, the series of archipelagos running from mainland Japan through Taiwan (China) and the Philippines off the Asian mainland.

The 40,000-ton Type 075 is an upgraded version of the 25,000-ton Type 071 amphibious assault ship.

The Type 075 is the largest amphibious assault ship in the Chinese Navy. Its flight deck allows six helicopters to take off at the same time.

The ship can carry 30 helicopters, to perform anti-submarine, early warning or combat missions.

With seven decks, the ship can also carry 35 vehicles or three hovercraft, along with 1,000 marines and vehicles.

In addition, this type of ship can carry 10 99A battle tanks, 20 Type 05 armored infantry vehicles and 50 off-road trucks at the same time.

Meanwhile, Naval and Merchant Ships magazine said that the Type 052D destroyer is the most powerful air defense ship currently on the global market with a displacement of 7,500 tons, equipped with advanced integrated command, missile and radar systems.
