Vietnamese students "go abroad", present scientific research in 3 languages

(NLDO) - Instead of traveling, many young people choose to experience a special summer with international students and lecturers.

Within the framework of the Summer Camp for Chinese Language and Culture (Summer Camp 2025) held at Daye University (Taiwan - China), students from Ho Chi Minh City International College (HCMC) impressed with their scientific research project vividly presented in 3 languages: Vietnamese - English - Chinese.

Bringing scientific research "abroad"

Hoang Phuoc Tat Khang (born in 2006), a student majoring in computer network programming, smiled and said that he had a very successful presentation before international lecturers. Khang represented the research group to present a real-time facial recognition attendance system using OpenCV.

The male student shared that the group had spent a long time researching and building a real-time facial recognition system to help automate the attendance process, control access, and support security applications.

"The system utilizes modern technologies such as OpenCV and InsightFace, ensuring high performance, minimizing errors and effort compared to traditional methods. The team hopes that this can become a flexible, easy-to-integrate and user-friendly solution, suitable for environments such as schools, offices or hospitals," Khang said excitedly.

Pham Quoc Kiet, a student majoring in automotive technology, introduced a model of a traditional car air conditioning system (without using an electronic control unit - ECU), which helps support more effective teaching and learning.

Presenting to the professional council, Kiet said the model focuses on practical skills such as disassembly, connection and inspection, helping students develop professional skills in a practical way. Thanks to that, students can visually observe the operation of key components such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion valves or fans.

"Using old components to make models helps optimize teaching and research costs, suitable for the budget conditions of manyeducational institutions. Moreover, the model is also an effective tool to test and evaluate students' practical skills, especially the ability to read circuit diagrams, connect and test electrical components" - Kiet shared.

In addition, this model can be integrated into many subjects such as air conditioning systems, automotive electrical engineering, creating multi-disciplinary knowledge connections; serving to organize STEM learning activities, enhancing teamwork, presentation and technical criticism skills.

Presentation in 3 languages: Nervous but fun!

Going abroad for the first time, in addition to English, students proactively improved their Chinese. Dai Diep University is an international learning environment, so as soon as they received the "ticket" to present, Khang and Kiet immediately thought of having to present the content in 3 languages: Vietnamese - English - Chinese.

"With Chinese, I can only understand and communicate simply, but I still need teachers to help translate specialized words. Although it takes a bit of time, I feel this is a special experience. I am very happy to receive a lot of encouragement from international students... Thanks to that, I have more motivation to improve my language skills" - Kiet said with a smile.

After completing this summer trip , Tat Khang aims to study more deeply in the field of coding; learn more Chinese and is determined to get the A2 TOCFL certificate in the next 2 months.

MSc. Nguyen Dang Ly, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City International College, said that Summer Camp 2025 helps students practice language, communication skills, teamwork, cross-cultural integration and prepare for integration. The first summer trip lasted from July 1 to July 14 and received many positive responses from parents and students.

"Three professors from Dai Diep University directly asked questions, commented and highly appreciated the students' practicality and serious research spirit. These topics not only demonstrate the ability to apply specialized knowledge into practice, but also show the students' confidence, proactive research and international integration capacity" - MSc. Ly shared.
