District radio reporters 'keep' the flow of information flowing smoothly to the grassroots

Dedicated, enthusiastic and closely following the grassroots and local areas are the reporters working at cultural - information and sports centers (also known as district radio reporters). They are the important "link", keeping the flow of information always smooth to each local resident.

In the districts and cities of Dong Nai , there are always the figures of reporters quietly sneaking around the roads, from remote areas, mountains to floating villages on rivers and lakes. They film, edit, write news articles, participate in producing radio and television works and even local cultural work. Each news report, each story they tell carries the breath of life, a close perspective of the land where they are attached.

Female reporter writes about her hometown Nhon Trach with all her love

Born and raised in Nhon Trach, reporter Huynh Xuan Mai (working at the Center for Culture - Information and Sports of Nhon Trach district) always has a special affection for her hometown. Sticking to journalism in the land she loves, she always seeks and spreads positive things, beautiful images of the people and land of Nhon Trach.

The opportunity that brought Ms. Xuan Mai to journalism began in October 2014, when she was assigned to write news and edit content for the Nhon Trach District Electronic Information Page. At that time, she had no experience and had never attended any formal journalism training, so everything was "zero".

“At that time, I had no experience and had never been through any formal journalism training, so everything was quite unfamiliar. I mainly wrote simple news about meetings and events, mainly to record information,” Ms. Xuan Mai shared.

It was not until 2018, when she was officially assigned to Nhon Trach District Radio Station (now Nhon Trach District Culture - Information and Sports Center), that she really began to approach the work of a journalist, from reporting, writing articles, interviewing, to editing radio news. She learned while working from previous reporters, from editing articles and from practical experiences.

When asked about when her love for journalism began, the native of Nhon Trach shared that she had dreamed of becoming a reporter since she was a student. Studying in the C major, she often read newspapers to enrich her vocabulary and get inspiration for writing assignments. The investigative reports with sharp writing style, along with the fearless dedication of journalists, strongly attracted the former student. And then, after many years of persistent study, that dream became a reality.

According to Ms. Xuan Mai, working as a reporter at a district station is usually not divided into specific areas, everyone has to "cover" almost all areas, from economics , culture, society to education, national security and defense... But if talking about the area that she feels most attached to, it is probably about security and order and articles about good people and good deeds, especially stories about the participation of veteran soldiers in the resistance war.

“When I meet them and listen to them recount their memories of the war, I find that I learn a lot about patriotism, sacrifice and the will to live. Writing such articles, I not only feel happy but also proud to be able to contribute a small part to spreading positive and meaningful things to the community,” said Ms. Xuan Mai.

“Falling in love” with Vinh Cuu district because of the love of nature

Having worked at the Vinh Cuu District Culture, Information and Sports Center for more than 11 years, Mr. Truong Duc Huy has now become one of the reporters with many outstanding reports on local radio, especially vivid reports on the livelihood of people around Tri An Lake or Ma Da Forest.

Born and raised in Quang Tri province, young Duc Huy studied cultural management at Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture. No one expected that the student would switch to journalism, let alone choose Vinh Cuu district as the place to settle down and start his career.

“At that time, it was just a coincidence that a friend introduced me. Seeing that Vinh Cuu district radio station was short of staff, I applied and was accepted. That's how I've been working for more than 10 years now,” Duc Huy shared.

Vinh Cuu is the largest district in Dong Nai province. It is not easy for a newcomer to understand and grasp all the local characteristics. However, it is the wild nature, vast forests and simple people here that made Duc Huy "fall in love". Each passing day, he gradually commits himself, learns and becomes an indispensable "storyteller" of this land.

“In Vinh Cuu district, there are forests and lakes. I love nature, so working in such a setting feels enjoyable and motivating,” said Duc Huy.

The most memorable memory of his journalism career was the first time he encountered and filmed a herd of wild elephants in natural conditions.

Mr. Duc Huy recalled: “That incident happened about 5 years ago. That day, I went with a reporter from Dong Nai Radio and Television to Phu Ly commune to make a report on the mango crop failure. While filming, we heard people say that elephants were coming out. Without thinking much, the two brothers quickly got on their motorbikes and rushed to the area where the elephants appeared.”

It was an area bordering a special-use forest, where elephants often move to find food. When they arrived, Duc Huy and his colleagues had just set up their cameras when they saw a herd of elephants slowly moving through the people's fields. There was no fence to prevent elephants, no protective gear, just two reporters with a camera. The feeling at that moment was extremely exciting, mixed with fear.

“At that time, the feeling was hard to describe. I was both happy and scared because this was a rare moment in my career as a journalist, witnessing and recording images of rare wild elephants in their natural habitat. But I was also very scared. In real life, elephants are much bigger than I imagined. Just one unexpected reaction from them, I didn’t know what could happen...” - Mr. Duc Huy confided.

Not only a reporter, currently, Mr. Duc Huy also works as an editor, technician... almost a "multi-talented" person at the Center for Culture - Information and Sports of Vinh Cuu district.

Sharing about his close colleague, Mr. Ngo Phuoc Tuan, a resident reporter of VnExpress newspaper in Dong Nai, said: “Mr. Duc Huy is a reporter who is enthusiastic about his job, hard-working, passionate and enthusiastic. Although he is a reporter for a district station, he often has many good and typical topics such as building a new model rural area in Binh Loi, or community tourism models. With the nature of my work as a resident reporter, far from the districts, Mr. Huy has many times supported me with information and images, especially valuable documents about Tan Trieu grapefruit village, about forest protection work, or the life around Tri An lake. Grassroots journalists like Mr. Huy have helped us a lot in exploiting valuable topics close to people's lives."

Trang Bom's son "rushes in" to report on the front lines

Journalists have countless stories written from sweat, dedication and even life and death moments. For reporter Tran Trung Nguyen (working at the Center for Culture - Information and Sports of Trang Bom district), journalism is an indispensable part of life, where the fire of the profession always burns brightly in his heart.

Referred to by his colleagues as a “passionate” person, Mr. Trung Nguyen is not afraid to “jump into” difficult and thorny topics. During his years as a journalist in Trang Bom district, he left his mark with a series of reports reflecting prominent issues. For him, journalism is to protect the truth and speak up for what is right.

Especially during the tense Covid-19 pandemic, his "devotion" spirit was more evident than ever. When many people were still hesitant, worried, and limited going out, he was one of the first to arrive at quarantine areas, field hospitals, or quarantine checkpoints. Wearing a tight mask, protective gear, carrying a camera and microphone, he roamed the alleys to record the actual situation regardless of day or night.

To work with peace of mind, he sent his wife and children back to his parents' house, stayed home alone to take care of his own meals, and then took his camera to work.

“At that time, I went to work without any fear of the epidemic. Because I knew that the images I filmed, if transmitted promptly, would help people better understand the danger of the epidemic. From there, they would be more aware, proactively go for testing, get vaccinated, and then comply with epidemic prevention measures. I just hope that each film, each news broadcast will contribute to encouraging and spreading the spirit of solidarity, together overcoming the pandemic,” Mr. Trung Nguyen confided.

In the digital age, although skills can be improved and tools can change, the dedication, love for the profession and the community of district radio reporters are always irreplaceable. And they, the ones who keep the "fire of the profession" alive at the grassroots level, are contributing every day to create a lively and authentic flow of information for all people.

Journalist Xuan Luong, Electronic Newspaper Department, Dong Nai Newspaper, who often accompanies Mr. Trung Nguyen on many working trips, commented: “Having worked with Mr. Trung Nguyen for a long time, I understand very well his way of working. Mr. Nguyen is always dedicated, not afraid of any difficulties. Journalism for him is not just a job, it is a passion, a responsibility. To me, Mr. Trung Nguyen is not only a colleague, but also a very precious brother and friend. In fact, not only him, many reporters at the grassroots level are also silently contributing. They are the extended arm that helps central and local press agencies promptly grasp information, detect problems, especially in remote areas. Their enthusiasm and responsibility are things that I always respect and am grateful for.”
