Heroes in everyday life

Tears of the Day of Meeting is a story told by the author about the People's Armed Forces hero, a famous intelligence officer during the anti-American war, nicknamed Tu Cang (real name Nguyen Van Tau). He was in charge of the H63 intelligence group, which contributed greatly to the unification of the country on April 30, 1975. He was also the Political Commissar of the 316th Special Forces Brigade, the unit that attacked Rach Chiec Bridge during the Ho Chi Minh Campaign.

A man with such a glorious feat, the hero Tu Cang was very ordinary and simple. He interacted respectfully and amicably with all classes of people. He told the story of his life as a secret intelligence officer in the enemy's heartland right in the middle of Saigon city as if it were a story that anyone could do.

Nguyen Thi Cuc's writings about Tu Cang made a strong impression on readers when they learned that he joined the resistance war when he was only 18 years old, while his young wife was pregnant with their first daughter. On the day the country was unified, he returned to his house in Saigon city, only a few kilometers from his secret residence, and his 3-year-old grandson ran out to welcome him in the joy of reunion.

Tu Cang's life is a model of a patriotic soldier. Writing about Tu Cang, author Nguyen Thi Cuc wants to send readers the example of a hero who is majestic in the fight to protect the Fatherland but very simple and honest in everyday life. That is what is said: the greater a person is, the simpler he is.

The pages about patriotism and love of life in "The Journey in Reverse" by Nguyen Thi Cuc also have stories about real-life characters such as teacher Le Duc Kiem, Mr. Quang... and about historical lands and places such as Quang Tri citadel, Truong Bon, Ke Go lake... with all the admiration of a citizen for a Vietnam that has gone through war, so he loves today's peaceful life even more.

Memory is a baggage of life

What draws readers into Nguyen Thi Cuc's "The Journey Backwards " are the pages written about her own life. The author opened her heart to tell readers about the difficult life from childhood but the resilience and indomitability to rise up of a beautiful and talented but passionate and troubled woman.

Normally, love stories are less happy than sad, sometimes even unhappiness in love is hidden and buried deep in the heart, only heaven and earth know, but with Nguyen Thi Cuc, it is not like that. She writes as a confession of the heart of an intellectual woman who is very knowledgeable about books and life, from her first love to her so-called contemporary love affairs. As a beautiful woman, she is loved by many people and she also loves many people. But there is one thing that is very common in all the love stories that Nguyen Thi Cuc told in Nguoc loi cuoc hanh trinh , which are all unfinished love affairs, including the love affair with the man she married, lived with for ten years, had 2 children together, but in the end it was unfinished because of a tearful divorce.

After each unfinished love affair, Nguyen Thi Cuc lived in a lonely space that she called the Land without you with the poems she wrote for a man she loved but who did not love her back, a one-sided love. Those are love poems that make readers' hearts ache:

"I go to the side without you

Love left behind, bitterness goes hand in hand

Thinking sadly and missing you

The afternoon is over, are you alone like me?

(The land without you)

Just like that, readers are drawn into the author’s love stories like watching a slow-motion series with unhappy endings but beautiful love stories. That is a rare ability in the narrative pen of Nguyen Thi Cuc. With Reverse path of the journey, the memoirs named Love and righteousness, March of the red cotton flowers, First love, Yellow rose, Velvet rose, Disordered rhythm … all have been and are the life’s luggage of the female author.

Drawing out memories that are less sad than happy, with more tears than smiles, to introduce to readers, "The Journey in Reverse" by Nguyen Thi Cuc is a collection of memoirs that brings readers valuable lessons and reflections on love and life.

Look back to move forward

Turning the last page of Nguyen Thi Cuc's book in "The Journey in the Opposite Direction", readers will see that human life, no matter how difficult, is still very beautiful and worth living. With each story of the author, the rule that when one door closes, another door will open appears very clearly.

With a writing style of simple, unpretentious, and unsophisticated sentences, Nguyen Thi Cuc has made a commitment to words through "The Journey in Reverse" to create a collection of memoirs with a strong narrative quality, captivating readers from beginning to end. Because with modern art, especially with literary art, honesty and everyday life always bring unexpected successes.

The most remarkable success of "The Journey in Reverse" is that Nguyen Thi Cuc's pages bring readers optimism and love for life, even when things seem deadlocked and dark.
